Bruce and The E Street Band, including members of The E Street Horns and The E Street Choir, hold a short day of private rehearsals (only about 1.5 hours) for the upcoming tour. Bruce worked on three songs from Only The Strong Survive, spending about twenty minutes running through "Nightshift", which includes a lot of percussion. "Don't Play That Song" was also run through a couple of times, then went back into familiar territory, with one new addition, "Sweet Soul Music", that hadn't been rehearsed yet. Patti Scialfa was not present, but the full band, including backup singers and horns, were. Today was the last day of rehearsals on this location, as on January 19 all equipment will be moved to CURE Insurance Arena, and rehearsals will resume at that venue shortly after. The venue appears to be closed to the public due to a private event through Thursday.

After a six-year break from the road, Bruce and the E Street Band open the 2023 International Tour with a 28-song, two-and-three-quarter hour set. The soundcheck started around 3:00pm and lasted around two hours. The band took the stage at 8:00pm, kicking off with "No Surrender". The live premiere of "Burnin' Train" opens the encores, while five other songs from Letter To You and two more from Only The Strong Survive make their first appearances in a full ticketed concert, including the first ever E Street Band versions of "Letter To You", "Nightshift", "Don't Play That Song", and "House Of A Thousand Guitars". A stripped-down version of "Last Man Standing", mostly solo acoustic with added trumpet from Curt Ramm, followed a spoken intro about Bruce's old friend and Castiles bandmate George Theiss. Bruce introduced all nineteen musicians on stage before "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out". The show ends with a solo acoustic performance of "I'll See You In My Dreams", which is dedicated to Emily Rose Marcus, critic Greil Marcus's daughter who had died a few days earlier.

Only two changes to night two's 28-song set, with "Thunder Road" added to close the main set and "Darlington County" making its tour debut as well. On the latter, Nils takes over vocals for the first part of the third verse, as he did in the later part of the River 2016 Tour. "Backstreets" includes a new, apparently improvised interlude in the midsection. During "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out", Bruce was handed a leather jacket with "Wild And Innocent" printed on the back from the crowd, which he wore throughout the song. A couple minor flubs: Bruce forgets Charlie during the band introductions, and there are two false start count-ins before "Born To Run". "Brilliant Disguise" and "Burnin' Train" are dropped from Tampa (though the latter was setlisted). Patti Scialfa is not present.

Bruce does send video messages in tribute to honorees Darlene Love and Stevie Van Zandt, while, in person, Garry Tallent honors Steve Earle and Southside Johnny honors Sam Moore. The event is hosted by Jon Stewart, and the Disciples Of Soul serve as house band for the evening.

Bruce pays a visit to Windmill Lane Recording Studios during an off-day from the 2023 International Tour. The studio posted on social media: "Such an honour to have The Boss recording in Studio One today ahead of his sold-out Dublin concerts." Brian Fallon confirmed in an interview with the Spanish magazine RockZone that Bruce recorded his part for the title track of their album History Books; it's unknown if anything else was recorded.
