Second of two shows, double bill, with Springsteen and band headlining and Nashville-based country singer-songwriter Alex Harvey on the undercard. Bruce’s second show of this evening was broadcast live on WLIR-FM as part of its weekly Tuesday evening simulcast from the venue. The orchestral violin/string sounds heard during "New York City Serenade" were produced by using a rented Mellotron (unlike the real strings on the album version). Albee Tellone recalls that the Mellotron became a regular resident of his equipment van. It was brought to 914 Studio many times during the recording of The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle, but four local music teachers were hired to play the string arrangement which was conducted by David Sancious. The listed setlist represents the circulating audio from this show. This very good quality audio was taped off the airways and represents the entire broadcast, although the performance almost certainly included two to four additional songs that never went to air due to time limitations.

”Oh, well….we flew….we were in , uh….California yesterday….in, uh…..San Francisco …funny city….all ups and downs…..really has its ups and downs (laughs a fake laugh) …..and uh…..and uh…..we usually, we….when , when you’re famous (laughter), you usually fly…..I gotta, I gotta explain it….you usually fly on, uh….you know, airplanes, big airplanes, right ?…..so….we were flying on these 747’s, right…. which were really nice because…..they’re gigantic, gives you that false sense of security, you know… there’s people at the bar, somebody’s playing the piano…..you know…and…. and …. they showed a movie…..you know, it’s uh….it’s comforting…. but uh……when we played in Syracuse with Chicago …..we had to fly on (?)…..yeah, you know…..with the ducks on the wings (laughter)…..yeah, ducks on the wings….where the …you know, the plane’s gonna crash, the pilot says he’s going for help….. jumps out with his parachute (laughs)….oh, you’re better off taking a bus…..”
