17.10.75 Los Angeles, CA, intro to ‘Pretty Flamingo’:
”(?)…we’ve been in L.A for ‘bout…three days, I guess, you know….not too long…. it’s like (chuckles)….and it´s like….the thing I’ve noticed is that people…..people look different out here, they look different than they do back east….(?) and it’s like….
because like…..back east I, I lived on this street…..was, was right on this highway, was on South Street….was on, uh, Highway 9 passed right by my house (?)….it was about, I lived close to town, so close to town…..and every day, about like….every day about 5 o’clock or 12 o’clock , was this one girl….you know, she used to like….I guess she used to work downtown ‘cause she used to walk by my house every day, you know…. and like me and Stevie…..would sit out on the porch, you know, sit out there….and like…..you know, we’d find out what time it is, ‘It’s 4.30 , man’….you know….’It’s quarter to 5’, we’d hustle out there, you know and we’d sit down…..and we’d say ‘Now, today, today you’re gonna go up…..say hi, my name is Steve’ (laughter), you know….’What’s your name ?’, you know, we’d plan all this stuff out, how we’re gonna do this, you know….she was like one of them girls that was like…..you sit there like a fool, you know…..and uh…..afraid to go up and say hello to….so we tried to get everybody, everybody on the street to….to go up and you know, find out what her name was….you know….and the only cats….that would go near her, there was this crazy guy……and like he….you know, we said ‘Man, go up, go up to her….find out what her name is, you’re crazy, see, she won’t, she won’t think nothing, just go on up’ (laughter)…..now, really, if you´re crazy, you can get away with lots of stuff, you know….really, that’s the truth, that’s the truth…..like, you know (?)….this guy, this little guy, little guy, was smaller than me…..you know, I used to hang out with him on the weekends…..like he’d go into poolhalls…..he’d go up to the table where, like, the heaviest cats are playing, you know…..they got, like, like, money on the game….he´d like take the, take the eight-ball and like throw it across the table, you know, knocking all the balls but they never used to beat him up ‘cause they thought he was nuts, you know (laughter)….so I was hanging out with him, you know…..and uh…..even he, even he wouldn’t go up to say (?) to her so……so this went on for like a few years, I guess (chuckles)(laughter)…..and then like I moved away, you know, so it was….(?) L.A, we came out here…..like there’s lots of…..I guess everybody looks different out here, you look different than back east, you know….there’s lots of girls like that out here (?)…. Clarence, Clarence´s watching them all, you know…..but we never found out what her name was, we,we used to always call her, we used to have this name we used to call her….should I tell her name…..yeah….

Gonna be talking to her….gonna be walking with her…..I’ll be talking to her …..gonna be walking with her…Steven…..I’ll walk with her….right past your house (laughter)….. yeah…..gonna find that girl….gotta find that girl……Clarence, you think (?)…..think…. think I’ll go hire….get some money, get some money and I’m gonna hire a ….hire a private detective, you know, you think that would do it…..like uh…..I don’t know, I looked in the phonebook, you know…..I think I’ll hire somebody famous, you know…. (?)..I don’t know what I’m gonna say to her (laughter) …. (?) …. I’m gonna…I’m gonna tell her I’m in a band , that’s right (cheers) ….Pretty Flamingo ….”

”I wanna know….anybody bought any….extra plane tickets….to come out here….the boys, see the boys are always trying to…..(?)…he’s got the receipt ? (?)….because uh ….(?)…got like extra tickets….this girl back home, you know…..I used to go out with ….now, she´s followed me from town to town….city to city…..state to state….. country to country…..all over…..and the guys in the band, they buy these extra plane tickets, you see….and they fly her to where I am…..(?)….I wanna know who’s responsible … for that moustache…..on my billboard this morning (laughter)…..somebody painted a moustache on that thing…..I know it wasn’t the guys in the band….(?)….”

”Alright….here’s a song….I first heard this band, this is the first one, the first L.A. bands I ever heard….heard it when I was about 15…..and I fell in love with ‘em and I been in love with ‘em ever since…..so I wanna dedicate this to, uh….Roger McGuinn, wherever he is….’cause this is his instrument…..”
