05.03.77 Orlando, FL, intro to “It’s My Life”
“One, two (crowd cheers) alright! (chuckles)…we broke everything on the first few songs (chuckles)…one, two…(the instrumental intro) …I remember in the summertime me and this friend of mine, we used to get his, his old man’s car and take off down towards the beach at night…we lived about twenty miles inland, in this little town…we used to head down along the Shore and park on, park on the street outside the bars ‘cause they wouldn’t let us into bars, we wasn’t old enough at the time…we’d get the bouncers to leave the doors open and we’d sit there on the hood of the car, listening to the, listening to the bands that came down from New York (crowd cheers)(?)…I remember about four in the morning we’d head back home…my old man, every night, starting at nine o’clock, used to shut off every light in the house, he’d just sit in the kitchen, smoking a cigarette, drinking beer, wait for me and my sister to come home…he used to lock up the front door so we couldn’t come in the front, used to have to come around the side, and I’d get out of the car and I’d stand there in the driveway…I’d look through the screen door and I could see the light of his cigarette butt, know that he was just sitting there, waiting for me…and I’d slick my hair back real tight so he couldn’t tell how long it was and try to make it through the kitchen…and every night he’d wait till I hit the bottom step and he’d call me to come back and sit down at the table and we’d sit there in the dark and he’d start talking to me…and all the years we’d sit there (?)…I remember I could always hear his voice but I could never see his face…he’d start off asking me how I was doing, how everything was going…but pretty soon he would ask me what I thought I was doing with myself and where I was getting my money from…and how he was just sitting there watching my whole life turn into a waste…so pretty soon we’d…we’d be fighting with each other, the same thing every night, we’d end up screaming at each other, my mother’d end up running in from the front room to try and keep us, keep us apart, trying to pull him off me…I’d always end up running out the back door, out into the street, screaming at him, telling him, telling him someday he was gonna have to learn to live with it…because it was my life and I was gonna do what I wanted to do (crowd cheers)(?)…”
