19.03.77 Lewiston, ME, intro to ´´It´s My Life´´
´´Here´s a song by a guy in New York (?) it was originally done by a group called The Animals in the 60s….(music starts)….I remember in the summertime….me and this friend of mine used to get his old man´s car and take off down towards the beach at night….and we was too young, they wouldn´t let us into bars so we used to park, park out on the street, if the bouncers´d leave the doors open and we´d sit there listening all night to the bands that were coming down from New York City, playing along the coast in the summertime….and we´d sit there all night till about four in the morning, sitting on the hood of the car just talking and doing nothing, then we´d head back home, I lived about twenty miles, twenty miles inland from the beach….I remember my old man, I remember every night ever since I was old enough to remember, he, he used to shut off all the lights in the house ´round nine o´clock and sit in the kitchen in the dark, smoking a cigarette, drinking beer…my Mom´d just sit in the frontroom watching T.V till she fell asleep, got up to go to work the next morning ….and the old man used to lock up the frontdoor so that me and my sister couldn´t come in around the front, we used to have to get through the kitchen, come in around the side, and four in the morningm I´d step out of that car, I´d stand there in the driveway, I´d look through the screendoor and I could see the light of his cigarette butt at the table, I´d slick my hair back real tight so he couldn´t tell how long it was, try to make it through the kitchen….and he´d wait, he´d wait till I hit that bottom step, started heading towards my room, he´d call me every night to come back and sit down at the table….some nights he´d take, we´d go riding in the car and we´d drive by this, there was this white house on the edge of town….I remember him and me used to drive by that house every day (?) sit outside looking at it….and we´d sit there, we´d sit there in the dark and he´d start talking to me….first it was just….how things was going, if I was getting by….then pretty soon it was where was I getting my money from and what I thought I was doing with myself….and how he was just sitting there watching, watching my whole life turn into a waste in front of his eyes….we´d end up screaming at each other, my mother´d end up running in from the frontroom, trying to pull him off, trying to keep us from fighting with each other and then I´d end up running back out the door, back out on the street, telling him someday, someday, someday he was just gonna have to learn to live with it because it was my life, I was gonna do what I wanted to do….´´
