Robert Hamburger | My first time hearing Bruce, but certainly not the last. At the time I had never heard of him. A friend INSISTED that we get tickets and go see him at Red Rocks, and if I wasn’t blown away, he would pay me back my money. Coincidentally, my friend’s name was Bruce and he was from NJ! Well, if you’ve never been to Red Rocks, put it on your bucket list. I regard it as the greatest concert venue in the world, and just visiting the park and taking in the surroundings makes for a magnificent experience. The band doesn’t even need to show up for it to be a great day! Bands routinely comment that performing at Red Rocks is on their bucket list. So, of course I said yes. And was blown away and became a lifetime convert on the spot. Instantly my favorite performer, and this against the backdrop of living in SoCal in my late teens and seeing Jimi, Janis, Jim, Jerry and all the rest live in small venues. But Bruce of course was on another level. Red Rocks holds about 12,000 and it was not a sold out show, maybe 7 or 8 thousand that day. Didn’t matter, folks went nuts. Kept pulling the band out for extra encores (just like everywhere), and finally at the very end he does I Fought The Law. Prefaced it by saying they had only learned it that morning… and then when we screamed for more, he laughed and said “We don’t know any more songs!” And that was that. |
