Intro to "Darkness on the Edge of Town"
´´Berserkley !….that was a wild girl out there….(chuckles)….we´re gonna get to that one….this is, uh…..this is a song for anybody who ever spent time in the darkness on the edge of town….´´
Intro to "For You"
´´This next song, this is, I was in New York and this guy…come up to me and he had these little glasses on (?) and he said that he, I think he said he owned or ran the Berserkley Records, is that it ? and he told me there was, he looked pretty berserk, you know, he told me there was this guy, Greg Kihn, that covered….this song….I thought he was kidding and, uh….I came out and heard it, it´s one of my favorite covers, this is for Greg Kihn, I stole his ending (chuckles)…this is greetings from Asbury Park….´´
Intro to "The Promised Land"
´´(?) this is, uh….this is a song, last, last year me and Steve and a couple of friends of mine drove from Salt Lake City down into Reno, we went out there and bought this old, for 900 bucks we bought this old ´60, ´65 Ford Galaxy….and we got beat and uh (chuckles) and somewhere out in the middle of the desert, it was in Utah, we found this old dirt-track, it was called the Rattlesnake Speedway, and this is called ´Promised Land´….´´
Intro to "Prove It All Night"
´´I was back in New York City….and uh….and I got into a cab with this cab driver, he started talking to me about….you get, in New York City you get into these cabs and you step into, like, a running monologue, like these guys, they don’t ever stop, they just talk, a guy gets, you get out, he keeps talking, you step in, they just pick up where the last guy left off and I got into this cab, it was about, I guess he was, he was about 50 years old, he was just talking about how….all your life you gotta prove something to somebody, he says ´I gotta go home, I gotta prove it to my wife, I come to work, I gotta prove it to my boss´ and….but I couldn´t figure out quite what it was he was trying to….trying to prove all the time….´´
Intro to "Racing in the Street"
´´Yeah, my…my parents, they live about a half hour away from here and I got a….16-year-old sister, which is, uh….hey! (chuckles) which is sort of funny ‘cause I haven’t seen her in about a year or so and when I come home now, she’s like….I remember that last time I was home, she was like skating around in this little ice-skating uniform, now I come home this time, like she’s got a behind and she’s got all that other stuff, you know, and she says, says ‘Come on, I’ll take you out, we’ll, we’ll cruise El Camino’…that’s what she says to me, right, so we go out and she’s got like, she wrecked my mother’s Toyota (chuckles) my mother had this Toyota, and she smashed it (?) so she could get another car, to get the insurance….so she’s got this, like, this late 60’s Cougar, you know, it’s got a little 302, 8-cylinder, pretty, you know, pretty peppy….and like a Earl Scheib paintjob, you know….is it still 39.95 or what? (?)….I remember Earl Scheib, I got into a fight with this guy, Earl Shy used to like…used to like, you know, you leave your windows down, he’d do the interior for free, you know….bring your little brother in the front-seat, he’ll paint him too, ´No extra, no extra charge’, he used to say, so I was like, uh, I remember I got into a fight, I was about, you usually stop fighting by the time you’re 18 or 19, I stopped when I was about 10 ‘cause I got beat all the time, these hands just were not dangerous weapons, you know, it was like (chuckles) I remember I got in a fight with this guy, I remember I beat the hell out of his hood with my forehead, you know (chuckles) put dents into the thing, must’ve been a Earl Scheib paintjob ‘cause I had blue paint in my hair for three days (?)….anyway, this is for her, you know (?)….this is for all the carboys ‘round here, this is called ‘Racing in the Street´.…´´
Intro to "Paradise by the C"
´´(chuckles) Hello….alright….are you ready for round two ? (cheers)(?)….´´
Intro to "Growin´ Up"
´´(?)…here´s for, uh, everybody that´s still growing up (piano intro starts)…I remember that my father used to….every night he used to sit in the kitchen with a six-pack of beer and all the lights out, and my bedroom was right up on top of his, I mean right up over the, over the kitchen and we had this like, uh, it was like one of those crates that are in the floor except it didn´t, wasn´t connected to no heating thing, it was just like open so it was like straight down into the kitchen and right underneath was, we had this gas-stove and I remember I used to be up there playing my records, in ´65 I was 15, I used to play like full-blast, like The Rolling Stones or something and he´d be screaming at me (?) ´Turn that stuff down´ or ´Turn this stuff down´ all the time and he used to try to….when he used to get really mad, he used to try to like smoke me out of my bedroom….he used to like turn on all the gas-jets in the stove (?) get to be about a 100 degrees up in my room so I couldn´t stay in there, you know, but I had this little roof that was like right outside and I used to open the window and I´d climb out there and I´d sit there….and uh….I remember one night….I was sitting there….and I looked up….and I stood stone-like at midnight….
(….) I remember….every night I used to come in, my father used to call me and I used to sit down in a chair in the dark and he´d say….´Ok….after this fooling around at the guitar, what are you gonna do with yourself ?´….he said ´You should be a lawyer….the guitar, that´s good for a hobby, you know, but you gotta have something to fall back on´….so my mother, she decides I should be a doctor….says ´You´re never gonna get anyplace unless you´re a lawyer or a doctor, they own the world´…. so I found out later on that the lawyers do (chuckles) I don´t know about the doctors (chuckles) but not if I can help it (chuckles) so anyway, I didn´t know what I was gonna do so in those days, like, they would send you to see the priest and the priest, you would talk to the priest and I remember the priest, he would always do this, they´d always do that, what´s the guy´s name ? Patrick O´Brien, Pat O’Brien, they all thought, they had, you know, delusions of grandeur, illusions of Bells of St.Mary or something (chuckles) and like I remember we´d walk around the, the rectory and they´d always walk with their hands behind their back, you know, and if they were talking to you, if you were like young and punky-looking, they´d take their jackets off so that you knew that they were cool (chuckles) and I remember I said ´Father, my, uh, my father wants me to be a lawyer, my mother wants me to be a doctor, I got this guitar and (?) I don’t know what I´m gonna do´, he says ´Well, a guitar, that´s ok for a hobby but you´ve gotta have something to fall back on, you know´….so he says ´But I, I don´t know, this is too big a deal, I can´t decide´, he says ´What you should do, you should go and you should pray, you should talk to God, see what He says´…. so that sounded like a good idea to me….I was trying to figure some place to hold the discussion….my bedroom before I go to bed was too intimate, you know, I didn’t know Him that well, didn´t go to church that much….I thought ´In church´ but I figured I´d let Him out of the house for a while, you know, don´t wanna keep Him in the house….so there was this place called Crematory Hill (chuckles) that was out by the graveyard and I went out there one night….and I remember it was surrounded by these woods and I heard all this howling….I looked around (chuckles)(crowd howls) great, only here to talk to God, please (chuckles) so I looked (?) to the stars and I started talking, I said ´God, my father wants me to be a lawyer, my mother wants me to be a doctor, I got this guitar´….and it was real quiet for a long time, then I heard some thunder (drums pound) I seen some lightning….give me a little lightning (chuckles)…and then these big words came out of the sky and all it said was….´Let it rock !´….´´
Middle of "Backstreets"
´´I remember you….walking in the street….with your hair (?) in that pretty blue dress ….that dress that your baby bought you….and I remember I´d….drive all night….baby, I´d….drive all night….baby, I´d….drive all night just to buy you some shoes….and to taste your tender charms….to have you hold me in your arms….you were my little girl….you had such sad eyes…..you always looked so….lonely, lonely, lonely….you had such sad eyes….oh, how they cried….oh, how they cried….we used to let ´em cry till they´re all cried out, till they´re all cried out, till they´re all cried out, we let ´em cry till they´re all cried out….and only you and me knew…. ´cause baby, only me and you knew….the way they could lie….they could tell such pretty lies….you could hold me in your arms and tell such pretty lies….and baby, now you´re back….baby, now you´re back…..now you´re back, girl….and baby, now I´m back….(?) I´m back…..and for just one minute I want you to look into my face ….look into my face….look into my face….look into my face….look into my face…. (?)….´´
Intro to "Rosalita"
´´…anybody know any dirty jokes…any clean jokes? A cappella? I don't think you're ready for a cappella with this band. We can't sing, we got.…That's a funny thing with this band, we always had a hard time singing harmonies. We don't have like a what is known as, what we don't have is five good voices. We got like…we got…one (giggle)…two. Oh bring me a home where the gonna take a nap, OK (guy in the audience yells: What are you gonna fall back on?) Laugh, ho oh. Good thing my father ain't here to hear that. I got something (here?) It's not working. (guitar tuning). That's Miami Steve's guitar. His guitar stinks. That's why he don't use it he says (more tuning). You…have a spare? (tuning) Hey wait a minute, I'm threatening the saxophone player (more tuning) It sounds so bad I can't believe it (more tuning) when in trouble just turn it up…that's uh…Wherever you are…Rosie….
(….) On the piano, a warm round of applause for Professor Roy Bittan….on the guitar, a tremendous ovation for Miami Steve Van Zandt….on the bass guitar, Mr.Garry W.Tallent….on the drums, the Mighty Max….on the organ, Phantom Dan Federici….and last but not least….master of the world….king of the universe, including half of (?)….the Big Man himself, in this corner, Clarence Clemons….´´

Intro to "The Promise"
´´Thank you….this is to that wild woman that ran by the front of the stage before (chuckles) this is, this is a song I wrote shortly after ´Born to Run´, it´s, uh, it´s called ´The Promise´….´´
Intro to "Born to Run"
´´I´d like to thank everybody for coming down, down here tonight….let you know we appreciate it, I´d like to thank you for the way you supported the band over the past three years when we weren’t doing too much, thank you very much, I hope you like the new album….here´s for the Cleveland boys….´´
Intro to "Quarter to Three"
´´We got one more and then you better get out of here !….(?)….impossible (chuckles)…I´ll never get that much sleep, right ? (chuckles)….´´
