“Back in, uh, 1974 I walked by this movie theater…and, uh, they had this big poster in the window of this Robert Mitchum-movie… and it was about these moonshine runners down South…I never saw the movie but I stole the title and I wrote this song and uh…I didn’t think there was ever any place that was really like, you know, like the, like the song or this title…me and Steve, we were, we were in Nevada about a year ago and we were driving down a highway and off to the side of the road there was this, uh, there was this house this Indian had built out of stuff he’d scavenged off the desert and out in front he had this big picture of Geronimo and a big sign over the top that said “Landlord” and he had this big white sign painted in red that said “This is the land of peace, love, justice and no mercy,” it pointed down this dirt road that said “Thunder Road”…”
