Scheduled: 20:00 | Local Start Time ??:?? / End Time ??:??34-song set includes the return of "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" after missing the previous three shows; it'll remain ever-present for the remainder of the tour. "The Price You Pay" is full-band. Roy plays "the piano intro before "The River" and "Once Upon A Time In The West" as a bridge between that song and "Badlands". Bruce sings a goofy take on the opening lines of "Stagger Lee" ("whoops, I mean, the moon was blue!") as an introduction to "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)". Bruce sings a bit of Chubby Checker's "Let's Twist Again" as an introduction to "I'm A Rocker". "Detroit Medley" includes "I'm Ready" and "I Hear A Train".

Intro to "Darkness on the Edge of Town"
´´Are you alive down there? (crowd cheers)(?)….yeah….thanks….I´d appreciate it if there´s any of you guys stuck in the aisles back there, if you could help these guys find your seats for you ´cause it´s gonna be a real long show and you´ll be standing up all night so….so you ought to, yeah, if you´re stuck, if you´re stuck in the aisle or you´re standing in front of a bunch of people that got their seats I´d appreciate it if you could find your seat, thank you very much, thank you…..´´
Intro to "Independence Day"
´´I remember when I….when I was growing up, I used to come in late at night and…..I used to always be afraid ´cause my father´d be sitting in the kitchen in the dark, he´d always be waiting for me, he´d lock up the frontdoor so that I couldn´t come in the front way, I used to have to….come in ´round the side porch, go through the screen door and he´d be sitting there in the dark and all I could see was just the light of his cigarette….and I remember I used to have long hair, I used to slick it back real tight so he couldn´t tell how long it was (chuckles) you know….pull my collar up real high….and it was always late at night, was the only time he seemed to want to sit down and, and talk to me a little bit….but it was always too late in the day ´cause he´d been home from work for a while and he´d been sitting there too long….. and when I used to start to tell him the things that was important to me….he used to think that….he´d been disappointed quite a bit and he used to think that they just sounded foolish ….it was like people hearing….hearing rock´n´roll on the radio and it just sounding like noise to ´em, you know….and I remember I used to wish that….when I´d go downtown, I used to get a buck, I used to go down, used to go down to the department store and buy like one, one record every week, I´d buy one single each week and I´d come home….you know….and I used to wish that….that he´d be able to hear this stuff that was on those records a little bit or if he´d, I thought maybe if he´d been able to hear it or something just like it when he was younger, it might´ve changed the way that he felt about, about his life and….and mine….but ….but in the end everybody´s gotta leave home, you gotta go (chuckles) you know, you gotta go someday….so if you´re out there on your own tonight for the first time, here´s good luck, this is for you (chuckles)….´´
Intro to "I Wanna Marry You"
´´This is for, uh, this is for Michael and for Kelly so….ready, Big Man?….sometimes…. sometimes you´ll be riding, riding down the street in a car, in a bus, and you´ll see, you´ll see somebody standing on the corner or riding by in the opposite direction….and for some reason that face….that face just stays with you and stays with you and stays with you…..now, when you get older….there´s certain people….who you only see maybe for….for thirty seconds on the street or just driving by in the car….and you always, you just don´t forget ´em, for some reason you just don´t forget ´em….hey, Big Man….here she comes…..´´
Intro to "Growin´ Up"
´´Alright, here´s one, here´s one for all the old veterans out there….here we go….
(….) There we were…..it was me and Steve….and Clarence….had this flat tire on this old, dark backroad in New Jersey….we were sitting in the car, everybody climbed into the frontseat….we´re all squashed together….and we´re thinking….we´re trying to decide which one of us is going to go outside and fix this flat….so I said ´Let´s look at this thing sensibly: I´m the Boss, I don´t have to go out´ (loud cheers from the crowd) then we decided to look at it even more sensibly: Clarence is the biggest, he don´t have to go….so just, just as we were squeezing Steve through the front window, we had about half of his upper torso out of the car, he was kicking and screaming….a light just like in that movie ´Close Encounters of the Third Kind´ came flashing down on the roof of the car….I looked out the window and I saw this big cherry-red flying saucer….with big Cadillac fins on it….it said ´Little Melvin and the Invaders - we play weddings, parties and bar mitzvahs´….so this little green man sticks his head out and he says ´Hey! Any of you guys know the way to the New Jersey Turnpike?´…. now….now we don´t give out that kind of valuable information to just anybody….you know… need some credentials around here….so we thought, we said ´Wait a minute…I got it,´ said ´Ok, Mr.Spaceman, you gotta give us each, each one wish and we´ll tell you how to get back to the Turnpike´…started on Clarence….Clarence….Clarence wished for a combination Laundromat-pizza parlor in downtown Asbury Park….that´s a pretty good wish….you´re gonna be seeing ´em all over pretty soon, you go in and do your laundry, eat - it´s gonna be sweeping the nation….then it was Steve´s turn….Steve´s wish cannot be repeated at this time and place….then came my turn so I thought real hard….I didn´t even get a chance to say it, to say it out loud, I was just sitting there thinking….and out across the highway, on the other side of the road, in the dark, something started to appear….I said ´Mr.Spaceman, I wish, I wish….I wish´….and man….when we touched….´´
Intro to "Stolen Car"
´´This is….I guess the hardest thing to do is….is to make good things last…..´´
Intro to "Crush On You"
´´Philadelphia….I´ve got a….crush on (crowd: ´You´)….´´
Intro to "Rosalita"
´´The night was clear….and the moon was yellow….yellow….(chuckles) I said ´The moon was yellow´….oops, I mean the moon was blue….and the leaves came tumbling down (chuckles)….
(….) We have with us tonight….at the far left of the stage….on the piano, Professor Roy Bittan….on the guitar, Mr.Miami Steve Van Zandt….on the bass guitar, Mr.Garry W.Tallent ….on the drums, the Mighty Max Weinberg…..on the organ, Phantom Dan Federici….from Flemington, New Jersey….we have some kinfolk out there for Danny….and last but not least ….do I have to say his name?….do I have to say it?….do I have to say it?….is it a bird?….is it a plane?….what the hell is it?…Clarence Clemons on the saxophone…..´´
Intro to "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"
´´It´s almost (crowd: ´Christmas´)….´´
Intro to "Jungleland"
´´This is, this is for any folks from Jersey tonight….´´

| PrincessCards | While this show was fantastic!! However what I remember most is getting into the car after the concert hoping to hear some Ed Sciaky reviews and some more Bruuuce music. What we heard instead is the news that John Lennon had been shot. Apparently Bruce was told halfway through the show and decided not to announce it. I can only imagine what was going through Bruce's head as he finished a perfect performance with such a heavy heart. |
| Tom Cantillon | My very first Bruce Springsteen concert and what was to signify only the beginning. I went with no expectations, simply because I wasn't a fan. A friend, Bill, had an extra ticket and told me I did not have to pay if I did not like the show. I thought it would simply be a cheap night out. As I sat 12 rows away on the side of the stage, waiting for Bruce and band to come out, I was amused by all the anticipation from the crowd. Well, 4 songs into the show, I handed over my money to Bill. I was witnessing something I'd never seen before. Bruce and the E Street Band amazed me, thrilled me, blew me away, made me dance and sing and feel sorrow and heartache and joy, all within the span of 3 hours. Listening to and seeing Born to Run, Badlands, Promised Land, Stolen Car, Because the Night, Two Hearts, Cadillac Ranch, Growin' Up, The River, The Price You Pay, Thunder Road, Ramrod, Jungleland and Wreck on the Highway was unlike any other concert experience I'd ever been to. Bruce played with a seemingly endless passion and intensity that was simply astonishing to witness. I had never seen anyone play with so much passion and commitment to their music. It was as if every song and every note mattered the most. As I watched Bruce and band perform, I couldn't help but think that they play as if it's their first show, or could very well be their last, and regardless, they were determined to make it their best show. The arena no longer existed as I sat and listened to the lyrics. It was as if Bruce were performing in my own living room. Most of the songs I'd never heard before, but that didn't matter. I remember listening to Thunder Road and Backstreets and thinking and feeling that this has to be a one-shot deal, that no one could possibly duplicate this any other night. But I was wrong. The next night, was as equally impressive. The night of December 8th was also a strange night, because as I arrived home, excited, enthused, feeling so very much alive, my dad, who was getting up to go to work, asked me about the show, but then told me that one of the Beatles had been shot. It was the night John Lennon died. So the night and experience was an odd mix of finding salvation thru rock'n'roll, as well as losing an essential part of that whole salvational package. I can honestly say that, to this day, I have not seen any one as consistent, as dedicated, as passionate, as powerful, as salvational as Bruce and the E Street Band. 25 years later, nearly 120 shows down the road, I had found inspiration and soul in one of the most unlikely places, a rock'n'roll concert. When I tell people about that experience and all the others that followed, I simply tell them, It's like going to church. The church of Bruce. So, thanks Bruce and E Street Band, for keeping me company all these years. The music and performances have been a great companion during both the good and bad times. Here's to hoping for many more nights of simply the greatest rock'n'roll show out there—ever! Thanks for the inspiration and for the sheer pleasure of enjoying music that is, without a doubt, the most soulful I've ever heard. Amen! |
