Audience tape (Unbooted). Two recording sources circulate, released from a first generation DAT clone missing "Hungry Heart" and a complete CDR version. A second source was released from Taper Man Joe's master tapes (G/Buckshot). Some circulating versions have "Wooly Bully" being played between "Jungleland" and "Born To Run". Audio evidence from multiple recording sources confirm this is not the case and "Wooly Bully" was not played at this show. A 1984 special episode of The Old Grey Whistle Test includes pro-shot footage of "Born In The U.S.A.", "Cover Me", and "Detroit Medley" from one of the Philadelphia shows, probably this one. "Detroit Medley" was partially shot with a roving camera, and uses audio from the 1979 No Nukes performance before switching to audio recorded from a microphone. See the media tab to watch the video.

End of "Out in the Street"
“Meet me now…on South Street (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Highway Patrolman"
“Oh, thanks…this is, uh…this is a song about, uh…family…and about your duty…what happens when, uh…those things…conflict…”
Intro to "I’m Goin’ Down"
“Thanks, this is, uh…this next song, this is kind of…a song about the fleetingness of love (chuckles) and, and you know how it is when you first meet somebody and you first go out, you’re holding hands with them all the time and kissing them all the time and anything they say is so brilliant and no matter what they wear: “Oh, honey, you look beautiful tonight,” you know (crowd cheers) and like…if you’re going out to the movies: “What movie do you wanna see?” “Oh, honey, I don’t care, whatever you wanna see” (crowd cheers) “Are we gonna go out or are we gonna stay home?” “Oh, sweetie, it doesn’t matter just as long as I’m with you” (crowd cheers) and, like, you know, you’re making love to ‘em all the time, they go “Oh, baby, not again” (crowd cheers) “I can’t help it, I’m, you just excite me so much”…you know…and then…then you come back about six months later and you hear like, uh, “Are we gonna make love tonight or are you gonna wait for the full moon again?” (crowd cheers) “Are you gonna take me out or do I have to sit around here all night and look at your face?” (crowd cheers) it’s, uh …in the end I guess it kind of boils down to…to a cold, hard stare, it feels kind of like…we sit in the car outside your house…”
End of "I’m Goin’ Down"
“That’s so sad…love is so fleeting…”
Intro to "Darlington County"
“Alright, are you ready for a road trip? (crowd cheers)…”
End of "Darlington County"
“Ah, look out now in Darlington County…they’re looking for you, Son…”
Intro to "Glory Days"
“I’m getting my moves now…(the music starts)…(the sing-along)…
now, this is a song, this is a song about…about ancient history… about old times…and how the older you get, the more old times you got…now…I always…got somebody coming up to me, I go out, somebody comes up to me in a bar…they go “Hey, Bruce, how you doing, remember me? we went to high school together…boy did we have a great time back then…we had so much fun, remember the time we went out and you were with that girl you liked and I spilled a beer all on you?”…somebody always telling me what a great time we had in high school…well, now, personally…I hated high school (crowd cheers) I didn’t like no high school (crowd cheers) every time this time of year comes around I’m glad I don’t have to go back to high school (crowd cheers) you guys that are in high school, you’ve got a lot to look forward to, let me tell you (crowd cheers) anyway, in high school I was only interested in two things… one was the guitar…and the other one…now…I got good at the guitar…the other one, I’m still looking for some volunteers who wanna practise, practise, practise (crowd cheers) oh yes…anyway… this is a song about (chuckles) about how all things must pass…and how in the end they ain’t nothing but glory days (crowd cheers) alright, band, you guys ready?…I’m gonna sing now (snickers)…”
Intro to "The Promised Land"
“Oh yeah…here’s little “Promised Land” for Dory…”
Intro to "My Hometown"
“Thanks…this is, uh…when I was a kid, I used to, uh…play, there used to be this park by my house…and uh…there used to be this monument in the middle of it…and…I remember my mother used to ask me where I was going, I used to tell her I was, I was gonna go over and play by the monument…and uh…I remember when I got older, I was in my first band, we were gonna have our publicity pictures taken, the first time we ever got our pictures taken, we went, went down to this place called Englishtown Auction (crowd cheers) and (chuckles)(crowd cheers) and we (chuckles) and we bought all this, like these plastic snakeskin vests and frilly shirts like the Kinks used to wear…and we had our Beatle boots and black stovepipe pants, we tried to straighten our hair so it looked like Brian Jones’ did (chuckles) and, you know, we went out and we got, we went out over by the monument and we stood up against it, had our guitars, did all the kind of tough guy poses and stuff, any picture that was smiling we threw out (chuckles) trying to look cool…but I kind of grew up around this, this monument all…all the time and I never, in the end I never…it wasn’t till I got older that I even knew what it was a monument, monument to, there had been this Revolutionary War battle that’d been fought outside the town I grew up in…but before this tour I went down to Washington and I visited the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (crowd cheers) and uh…it’s a, it’s a long walk and a lot of years in-between those two places…and…those monuments are there so that you remember, so that you never forget that this is your hometown (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Thunder Road"
“(After the sing-along) You guys wanna join the band? (crowd cheers)…”
After "Thunder Road"
“Thanks (crowd cheers) oh (crowd cheers) thank you (crowd cheers)(?) thanks…yeah (crowd cheers) don’t tire yourself out ‘cause we’re just getting warmed up here (crowd cheers) you gotta save some for later now (crowd cheers) we’re gonna take a short break and then we’re gonna be back to rock you all night long (crowd cheers)…”
Towards the end of "Dancing in the Dark"
“Sometimes I feel…so lonely…and I get so downhearted…and I just wanna…cry, cry, cry now…and that’s when I need a little help…and I just wanna reach out…reach out and say…hey, baby…come on, Dory…”
After "Dancing in the Dark"
“That’s for Dory (chuckles)(?)…”
Intro to "Sherry Darling"
“Anybody named Sherry out there? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Pink Cadillac"
“(?)…now take it down a little bit…now, this is a song…about the conflict…between worldly things…and spiritual health…between the desires of the flesh (crowd cheers) and spiritual ecstasy…between the mansion on the hill and the mansion in the sky…between the cynics and the sceptics and the true believers – now, what I wanna know right now is how many of you out there believe that if…that if – and I hope this doesn’t happen – that if you should die tonight due to the excitement of the show (crowd cheers) that you’re gonna go to heaven? (crowd cheers) now, how many out there believe…that…if during the final moments due to cardiac arrest or some other terminal illness you should happen to pass away that you’re gonna take the down-elevator? (some cheers) now, as for me…when it comes to dying…I’d rather be in Philadelphia (crowd cheers) because in the beginning there was a Garden of Eden, there was a man, there was a woman, there was an apple, there was a snake, there was temptation, there was sin and parked curbside there was a pink Cadillac (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Rosalita"
“In a little café…on the other side…of South Street (crowd cheers)…
(…) Alright…ladies and gentlemen…and children of all ages…it is now my honor to introduce to you…the illustrious, the industrious members of the E Street Band (crowd cheers) beginning…to my far left…there’s a gentleman with us tonight who gave up a scholarship to Harvard University where he was working on his PhD in unusual sexual practises to join the 1984 tour with the E Street Band (crowd cheers) you may be familiar with his studies of the lost tribes of Hoboken or with his theory of promiscuity, ladies and gentlemen, the educated, the dedicated, the complicated, the sexually liberated: Professor Roy Bittan (crowd cheers) and next… on the vocals, an alumni of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes (crowd cheers) from Long Branch, New Jersey (crowd cheers) the lovely, the beautiful Miss Patti Scialfa on the vocals (crowd cheers) and then the man that puts the bass in your face, that brings you the thunder from down under, his mother was a Tallent, his father was a Tallent, Mr. Garry W. Tallent on the bass guitar (crowd cheers) on the drums, a dedicated husband, author, drummer, author of “The Big Beat,” the Mighty One, Max Weinberg on the drums…(?) yeah…and next on the organ…the inimitable, the inevitable, the immoral, the impractical, the illustrious, the incredible Phantom Dan Federici (crowd cheers) and he’s good looking too, alright…and now…the newest member of the E Street Band (crowd cheers) drum roll, please…Mr. Nils Lofgren on guitar… (Nils does his trampoline stunt)(crowd cheers)…that’s incredible… and now…(crowd cheers) you know who’s coming now…you’ve seen him in the movies, you’ve seen him on TV (crowd cheers) how can I describe the gentleman?…leader of his own band, the Red Bank Rockers (crowd cheers) the only thing I can say…is give me a C-L-A-R-E-N-C-E, what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence”) on the saxophone, Clarence “Big Man” Clemons (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Born to Run"
“Oh, yeah (chuckles)…I’d like to just take a minute and thank everybody for coming down to the show (crowd cheers) you guys been…you know this is one of the first towns here that always supported us (crowd cheers) like my home away from home (crowd cheers) now, this is…this song, this is, uh, when I was a kid, the first thing that ever kind of got through to me and made any impression on me was the music of Elvis Presley (crowd cheers) and…I guess he just kind of opened up my mind and let me dream about bigger things than maybe I would have normally…coming from where I came from…so…his music always said to me “Just let freedom ring”…and…I’ve been lucky ‘cause I get to live, I get to live a pretty big piece of my dream every night so (crowd cheers) here’s hoping, uh, here’s hoping you get to live out a piece of yours (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Detroit Medley"
“Oh, I gotta check on our schedule now…rolling through St. Paul …Minneapolis…moving on up through Cincinnati…on into Chicago…
over into the Motor City and on up into Canada…Toronto, Montreal …down into Saratoga, New York…moving down through New York City and New Jersey (crowd cheers) down into Washington… Baltimore…Hartford…Boston…Worchester…till we end up in… Philadelphia (crowd cheers) now are you guys ready to travel? (crowd cheers) I mean are you ready to go home and pack your bags? (crowd cheers) you’re gonna have to quit your jobs (crowd cheers) you’re gonna have to say goodbye to your mamas and your papas (crowd cheers) if you wanna be in a rock’n’roll band…are you ready to go? (crowd cheers) are you ready to go? (crowd cheers) are you ready to go? (crowd cheers) let’s go…”
Intro to "Twist and Shout"
“Do you surrender, that’s the question (crowd cheers) you must be getting tired out there now (crowd cheers) you gotta be tired (crowd cheers) you’re just too proud to admit (crowd cheers) oh no…what you say, boys, what you say?…(music stops) let’s get ‘em …”
Middle of "Twist and Shout"
“Oh, yeah…how you doing, Big Man? (?) yeah…how you doing, boys…and girls?…oh, it’s my favourite part of the night – I get to see who’s out there (crowd cheers) watch everybody dancing…oh, you gotta twist and shout now…what I wanna know is how’s everybody way up in the back there doing? (crowd cheers) you guys alright up there?…that’s some high altitude rock’n’roll…how’s all these crazies in the backseat? (crowd cheers) oh, you’re looking good (crowd cheers) well, now, before I go, there’s just one last thing that I gotta know…and that’s…and that’s…and that’s…Do you love me?…”
After "Twist and Shout"
“Thank you, you guys were incredible, you got it down (crowd cheers) we love you (crowd cheers)…”
