Bruce adds a short spoken introduction to "Racing In The Street": "I remember that she'd always be calling me 'Bobby, Bobby,' and I'd be running around the house trying to find the keys to the car, because sometimes she’d hide 'em on me when she didn't want me to go out at night. It was hard to make her understand that when I took the car out, and when I won, that it was something that I could do good, it was the only thing that made me feel good about myself. I guess doing something, just one thing that you can find that makes you feel proud of yourself - I don't think that's too much for anybody to ask – is it?" Set also features the last "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" of 1984, which features a snippet of "Hail To The Chief" during the band introductions. "Detroit Medley" includes "Travelin' Band".

Audience tape. There are at least two different tape transfers of this show which are actually a mix of Los Angeles 1984 dates and the St. Louis 1984 show. These wrongly dated tapes are widely circulating among those who collect unbooted shows. Recently the full show from a 1st generation source tape from Gobillygo has surfaced which has the above complete setlist. Collectors can note that "Pink Cadillac" is split across two tracks which will help identify this source. The second source is now available from the Tape Man Joe masters Volume 80. The video live-footage for the "Born In The U.S.A." music video is shot during 3 of the shows at the stadium.
Intro to "Reason to Believe"
“Thanks, this is, uh…this is a song about blind faith and its results …blind faith’s a dangerous thing, whether it’s in your girlfriend…or whether it’s in your government…”
Intro to "Mansion on the Hill"
“Thank you…this is, uh…when I was growing up, there was this house that stood out on the edge of town and, uh…sometimes at night my dad’d, you know, he’d be sitting at the kitchen table (?) he’d say “You wanna go for a ride?” we’d get in the car…and he’d always drive out by this house, I don’t know what, I don’t know what it meant to him but he’d sit there by the side of the road and smoke a cigarette and just look up at it…and sometimes me and my sister, there was this gate that went around and I’d run up to the gate and stare in and they always had somebody in there come down and chase you away…it was like a kids’ game we’d play…”
Intro to "Darlington County"
“Wanna go on down to Darlington County?…”
Towards the end of "Darlington County"
“They got your license…they got your registration…and they’re looking for you…”
Intro to "Glory Days"
“Now, this song, this is a song about ancient history…it’s a song about nostalgia…nostalgia’s big!…everybody’s always thinking about way back when…when I start thinking about that stuff, I start thinking back to my teenage years, Big Man…I remember when I was like in high school…I used to…I used to have like this pool table in my bedroom…I did, I got it at Sears, cost 69 dollars 95 cents… and it just fit in my bedroom…it was around the same time that I was studying the guitar…so I would get like, my girlfriends would come over my house but my bedroom was right over the kitchen and my father would sit down in the kitchen and he could hear what was going on upstairs (crowd cheers) so…if he didn’t hear the guitar and if he didn’t hear the pool balls knocking together, he used to have a broom that he’d start slamming on the ceiling (chuckles)(crowd cheers) so he had to hear the guitar or the pool balls (chuckles) so I pulled the pool table over real close to the bed (chuckles) (crowd cheers) so I could kind of reach up and throw ‘em around once in a while (crowd cheers) when I was in high school I was only interested in two things…one was the guitar…and the other one was not pool (crowd cheers) now the guitar was the one that I became proficient at over the years…the other one…I’m still looking for some dedicated volunteers who wanna practice, practice, practice! (crowd cheers) I’m so lonely (crowd cheers) anyway, in the end it ain’t nothing but glory days (crowd cheers) all things must pass…”
Towards the end of "Glory Days"
“Keep on rocking now, boys…keep on rocking, people…don’t ever stop now…because I can hear my life ticking away, every minute every day…it says Boss, you’re 30…31…32…33…34…35…30…30…30 …”
At the end of "Glory Days"
“Stop that clock!…I don’t wanna grow up!…”
Intro to "The Promised Land"
“Thanks! (crowd cheers) hang in there! (chuckles) (crowd cheers) (?) Promised Land!…”
Intro to "My Hometown"
“Big Man on the saxophone (crowd cheers) Nils Lofgren on lead guitar (crowd cheers)…thanks, this is, uh…I wrote this song…I guess probably ‘bout two years ago now and when I first wrote it, I thought I was writing about, about the town I grow up in and what had happened to it (?)…but in the end I guess it’s a song about, kind of about responsibility to the place that you live…and, uh, tonight when you go out during intermission, there’s some people out there trying to hold up their end of the responsibility, they’re from the Steelworkers’ Old-Timers’ Food Bank (crowd cheers) and, uh…what they do is they feed people, people that’ve been hit by the plant closings that you’ve had here over the past three years, you had the U.S. Steel plant close down, the General Motors’ plant, Bethlehem steel mill closed down and, uh…there’s people out there that, uh…they need, uh, they deserve a break so (crowd cheers) they can use, they can use all support you can give ‘em, the Steelworkers’ Old-Timers’ Food Bank…they’re working to make your hometown a better place to live (crowd cheers)…”
1984-10-28 Los Angeles, beginning of “Thunder Road”
“(singalong) Are you talking to me? (crowd cheers)…”
After "Thunder Road"
“Thanks, thank you (crowd cheers) we’re gonna take a short break, I’m gonna fix my hairdo and, uh (chuckles) we’ll be back in a little while…remember Steelworkers’ Food Bank out there and don’t get tired out because we’re just getting started (crowd cheers)…”
Towards the end of "Dancing in the Dark"
“Sometimes I feel…I feel so lonely…and I get so downhearted…I just wanna cry, cry, cry…that’s when I need a little help…and I just wanna reach out…to somebody somewhere…and say…hey, Baby… come on (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Cadillac Ranch"
“Now the question is…is there a Cadillac on the premises? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Pink Cadillac"
“Take it easy, boys…now, before the beginning of time…there was a tremendous battle between the forces of good and evil, now, on this side they had the Devil and he had his boys…then on this side they had the Lord and the Archangel Gabriel and he had his boys (crowd cheers) and when they came together, let me tell you they wrestled and the Devil, he was mean and he had some dirty tricks up his sleeve and he started to get the Lord and the archangels down…but with one sweep…of Gabriel’s sword they sent the Devil tumbling down to the darkness below (crowd cheers) now, this was the beginning of conflict between worldly things and spiritual health, between desires of the flesh (crowd cheers) and spiritual ecstasy…now, where did this all take place?…well, it happened in the Garden of Eden…now, the Garden of Eden was originally believed to have been located in Mesopotamia…but the latest theological studies have found out that its actual location was ten miles south of Jersey City, off the New Jersey Turnpike (crowd cheers) now, that’s why they call it the Garden State (crowd cheers) now, in the Garden of Eden, understand, there were none of the accoutrements of modern living…you know, you didn’t have no television you could watch at night, you didn’t have no little bed you could, you could crawl up into, you didn’t have no Laundromat you could go down and do your clothes – didn’t have no clothes! in the Garden of Eden there was no sin…there was no sex (some boos from the crowd) Man lived in a state of innocence…now, when it comes to no sex, I prefer the state of guilt that I live in (crowd cheers) but before this tour I made a spiritual journey to the location of the Garden of Eden, it’s now occupied by Happy Dan’s Celebrity Used Car Lot…and I went in and I said “Dan, I got some questions,” he says “Son, you need a yellow convertible, a four-door DeVille, a Continental spare, wide chrome wheels, air conditioning, automatic heat, a full fold-out bed in your backseat, 8-track tape deck, TV and a phone so you can speak to your baby when you’re driving all alone” (crowd cheers) I said “I’ll take two” (crowd cheers) but he said “Now, Son, understand, in the beginning there was the Garden of Eden, there was the Tree of Life, there was the Tree of Knowledge, the Lord said “Don’t mess with that Tree of Knowledge or there’s gonna be a rumble in the jungle!” (crowd cheers) but there was Adam, there was Eve, she was looking good (crowd cheers) there was an apple, there was sin and parked curbside was a getaway car (crowd cheers) a pink Cadillac (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Racing in the Street"
“I remember that she’d always be calling me “Bobby, Bobby” and I’d be running around the house trying to find the keys to the car …’cause sometimes she’d hide ‘em on me when she didn’t want me to go out at night…and…it was hard to make her understand that when I took the car out…and when I won that it was something that I could do good, it was the only thing that made me feel good about myself (crowd cheers) and…I guess doing something, doing something, just one thing, just one thing that you can find that makes you, that makes you feel proud of yourself…I don’t think that’s too much for anybody to ask – is it? (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Rosalita"
“Alright now…ok, ladies, gentlemen…children of all stages…citizens of Los Angeles (crowd cheers) it is now time for me to introduce the illustrious, industrious members of the E Street Band (crowd cheers) first…to my far left…we have the brains of the entire organization…the only member of the band with a complete high school diploma (crowd cheers) he don’t have it with him tonight but I promise he’s got one…a man that turned down a scholarship to Harvard University…where he was working on his PhD in unusual sexual practices…you may be familiar with his theory of promiscuity, his study of the lost tribes of Hoboken, ladies and gentlemen, the dedicated, the educated, the complicated, the sexually liberated, the heterosexual intellectual, Professor Roy Bittan on the piano (crowd cheers) next we got a lady…the lightest traveling woman in show business…the talented, the beautiful, alumni of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, from Long Branch, New Jersey, Miss Patti Scialfa on vocals (crowd cheers) then we’ve got the man that puts the bass in your face, he brings you the thunder from down under, his mother was a Tallent, his father was a Tallent, his great grandfather was a great, grrrreat Tallent, on the bass guitar Mr. Garry W. Tallent (crowd cheers) now we got on the drums the man that puts the heat in the beat that gets your asses out of your seat and moving your feet…author of the Big Beat, the Mighty Max Weinberg on the drums (Max pounds the drums) let’s go!…and now we got a gentleman celebrating his 15th anniversary as a member of the E Street Band (crowd cheers) I’d like to take some time out tonight to show my appreciation – Danny, for fifteen years of dedicated service – bring out the gifts, bring out the gifts…for fifteen years of dedication, we got…a washer-drier…now you don’t have to go to those Laundromats any more – you can do your clothes right here on the road and as a matter of fact you can do the whole bands’ too (crowd cheers) on the organ, Phantom Dan Federici (crowd cheers) next we got a gentleman…as sweet as life itself, on the guitar, Mr. Nils Lofgren (Nils does a short solo and then a back flip from a trampoline) (crowd cheers) and last but not least (crowd cheers) the man don’t need no introduction, goddammit…what can I say?…he’s a mean, lean love machine (crowd cheers) if there was any justice, he’d be the next President of the United States (Roy plays a bit of “Hail to the Chief”) (crowd cheers) so give me a C (crowd: “C”) L (crowd: “L”) A (crowd: “A”) R (crowd: “R”) E (crowd: “E”) N (crowd: “N”) C (crowd: “C”) E (crowd: “E”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence!”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence!”) who’s that man? (crowd: “Clarence!”) Clarence “Big Man” Clemons on the saxophone (crowd cheers)…
(…) This is his last chance to get his daughter with something mean ‘cause I got picture on the cover of People Magazine…”
Intro to "I’m a Rocker"
“Max, if you will (Max starts drumming) as Shakespeare said…Is you or is you not a rocker? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Follow That Dream"
“I’d like to thank everybody for coming down to the show tonight, thank you very much (crowd cheers) and, uh…I’d like to thank youse for helping the, helping the Food Bank out here, I know some of you guys been back more than one night already (crowd cheers) they can use your support out there…everybody deserves a chance …this is for my little sister (chuckles) (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Detroit Medley"
“Now, what’s that schedule?…(?)…moving out of St. Paul…up to Cincinnati…on out to Chicago…moving on over to the Motor City…on up into Canada, Toronto, Montreal…then down to New York…down to New Jersey…on down to Washington, Baltimore…out into Pittsburgh…and then we’re heading west…we’re hitting Vancouver… Seattle, Oakland…Los Angeles, California (crowd cheers) now I wanna know are you ready to travel out there (crowd cheers) I mean are you ready to go home and pack your bags (crowd cheers) you’re gonna have to quit your job (crowd cheers) you’re gonna have to quit school (crowd cheers) you’re gonna have to kiss your baby goodbye (crowd cheers) you’re gonna have to say goodbye to your mama and your papa if you wanna be in a rock and roll band (crowd cheers) well, are you ready to go? (crowd cheers) are you ready to go? (crowd cheers) are you ready to go? (crowd cheers) are you ready to go? (crowd cheers)…”
Towards the end of "Detroit Medley"
“Don’t make me do it (crowd cheers) don’t make me (crowd cheers) we’re gonna have to lay some cruel and unusual punishment on you right here (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Twist and Shout"
“Oh, you’re looking good out there (crowd cheers) I can’t believe you made it all the way this far (crowd cheers) you gotta be getting tired out there (crowd: “No!”) you must be beginning to lose it out there (crowd: “No!”) you’re just too proud to admit it (crowd: “No!”) alright, keep on moving…oh yeah, oh, it’s my favorite part of the show…I see all them faces…
(…) How you feeling out there – alright? (crowd cheers) how you guys way in the back there, up in the high altitude section? (crowd cheers) you getting enough air up there or what? (crowd cheers) (chuckles) how’s everybody in the backseat? (crowd cheers) oh, bring it on round! (crowd cheers) you’re looking good (crowd cheers) there’s just one thing that I got to know before I go…and that’s…there’s one question that I need an answer to…and that’s… and that’s…Do you love me?…”
