´´Back where I live….they brought in, uh….legalised gambling about 50 miles south of where I grew up….trying to, uh….help the economy, now they got these big golden casinos a block in from the slums and the mafia, the gangs down there fighting for control….and this is ´Atlantic City´….´´

´´When I was growing up….my old man used to….sit in the kitchen, he´d come straight home from work and he would sit in the kitchen at night….my mother would bring him his dinner… and, uh, he´d sit there all night long, just drinking some beer, smoking a cigarette….and uh…. he used to lock the frontdoor to the house so that I used to have to come in around the side, me and my sister, he could tell what time we were coming home….and uh….if you´re gonna come home too late, sometimes you were better off waiting until the next morning….so give him a chance to go to bed and sleep it off a little bit….I used to keep a sleeping bag hid on the outside of these woods and some nights I´d go and I´d get it and I´d sleep on somebody´s porch or I´d sleep in a friend of mine´s car….and now when I go back home, sometimes those places that I used to sleep are more like home to me than my own house was….and uh ….this song is, uh, ´cause everybody needs someplace to go on those nights that they can´t go home….´´

´´Alright now…super (chuckles) now this is a song about getting old….yeah….I mean getting old….I´m getting old now, man, yeah….I´m 35 now….that´s getting up there….oh yeah….I need help into bed at night (chuckles) by my wife, by my wife, I´m married, I´m married (chuckles) but uh….now some of us kind of just waste away but others, like the Big Man here, as you can see, he has maintained every inch of his youthful beauty….yes, he has, that´s right….this is for everybody out there in your thirties, if you´re here with your wife, got your kids with you….this is for everybody else who´s gonna get there soon enough….´cause in the end it ain´t nothing but glory days….alright, boys….´´

´´Danke, thank you….this, uh….oh man….I remember when I was growing up, I hated the town that I was living in….it was a real small town in New Jersey….and uh, there wasn´t much there, I guess, there was just some farms, some factories….and, uh, it seemed like it was the kind of place that, you know, your father did what his father did and you did what your father did….and I remember thinking I couldn´t wait till I´d get out of there, when I was about 19, I got a chance to go out on the road and, uh, I thought that I´d never, I´d never miss it, wouldn´t wonder what happened to my old friends and my folks….and for a long time I didn´t and as I got older, I would come home and start driving down the old streets I grew up on and looking for my old friends and see what had become of their lives and I realised that the place that you grew up and are raised never leaves you, it always stays in your heart…. and I guess what I was afraid of when I was a kid was I was afraid of belonging to something ´cause if you belong someplace, that means you got some responsobility to it….so ….I guess I´d like to do this song for youse and I´d like to say that this is von meiner Heimatstadt an eure Heimatstadt….from my hometown to your hometown….´´

´´Thank you….oh….thanks, I would like to take a minute and thank everyone for coming to the show here in Frankfurt, thank you very much….and, uh….I´d also like to thank you for supporting our band in the years when we haven´t been able to get over here as often as we´d like, thank you very much….this song, I guess the first thing I remember when I was a kid, I would come downstairs and my mother would have Elvis Presley on the radio in the morning ….when we´d be eating breakfast….and in 1976 we were on the ´Born To Run´-tour in the United States….and we were in Memphis and it was late at night and I got a cab driver to take me and my guitar player Steve….out to Elvis´ house….and it was very early in the morning, about 3.30, and I stood in front of the gates with the guitar players on and there was a light on in the second story window, so I jumped up over the wall and I jumped down on the other side and I started to run up the driveway towards the house….which sometimes I regret doing because I hate it when people do it at my house now (chuckles) but, but anyway, I was filled with the enthusiasm of youth and I was running up the driveway and I got to the frontdoor and I was about to knock and the guards came out and they asked me what I wanted and I said ´Is Elvis home?´….and, uh, they said ´No, he´s in Lake Tahoe´….so I tried to tell ´em that I was a guitar player too and that I had my own band and we played in town that night and, uh, I told ´em I had my picture on the cover of Time and Newsweek (chuckles) it was (chuckles) but they didn´t believe me (chuckles) and they took me down and put me back out on the street where I belonged, I guess….but, uh….I don´t know what I would´ve said if I´d have had a chance to meet him that night, but I can remember a friend of mine called me, I was living on a farm in New Jersey when Elvis had died, and, uh….it was very hard to understand how someone whose music took away so much loneliness could´ve ended up dying so tragically and so lonely….but uh….anyway, I´d like to do this for you and this is wishing all of you a very long life with the best of everything….´´
