Intro to “Johnny 99”
”Bonjour (crowd cheers)…yes, it’s good to see you (chuckles) comment ca va? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Glory Days”
“(After the sing-along) Fantastique (crowd cheers) that’s good singing too (crowd cheers) man, that tired me out though…I get tired easy these days ’cause I’m getting old now…I gotta sit down… yeah, I’m 35, man…that’s old…Big Man, he’s older than me though…Big Man is, uh, 40…40…40, uh…sweet sixteen! (crowd cheers) but somehow the older he gets, the more handsome he gets…he just had a little Big Man, him and his wife…he’s handsome too…man, this, this song is a song about getting old…happens to everybody…it’s about glory days (crowd cheers) gonna hang on ’em now…are you ready, band?…ready, people? (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of “Glory Days”
“Keep on rocking now…don’t ever be stopping…’cause I can hear that big clock ticking away…every minute of my life every day…it says “Boss…you’re 30…31…32…33…34…35…30…30”…Big Man, I can’t see you…I can’t see you…we’re all grown up, man…”
Intro to “My Hometown”
“Thank you, thanks (crowd cheers) this is a song, I guess it’s about, uh…I grew up in a small town…about 20 miles inland from the coast…and, uh…I remember I was 16 or 17, I used to lay in bed at night, I used to hate the place and say “I can’t wait till I get out of here”…on the weekends I used to get a bus, go up to New York City (crowd cheers) I got New Yorkers out there? (chuckles) (crowd cheers) and, uh, could always breathe a little easier up, up there, like where I grew up was…I don’t know…but, uh, I got around 19 and I got to go out on the road and I started traveling and for a long time never missed it, never wanted to go back…didn’t wonder what happened to the people I knew…then when I got to my late twenties, I started to go home and I’d get in my car and I’d ride down the old streets that I grew up on, I would drive at night past the houses I grew up in and wonder who lived in there now and what their lives were like…and I realized that the place that you’re born in and that you’re raised in never leaves you, it always stays in your blood…and, uh…I guess that means that you got, that you belong someplace…that’s not so bad (chuckles) I used to think it was (chuckles) but if you belong someplace, that means you got some responsibility to it, I guess…and that was the hardest thing that I had to deal with with my hometown (chuckles) so (crowd cheers) still working on it (chuckles) but, uh…let me make sure I say this right – I’ll be right back…what I wanna say is de ma ville natale à votre ville natale (crowd cheers) from my hometown to your hometown…”
After “Thunder Road”
“Merci…we’re gonna take a short break and then we’ll be back in a little while (crowd cheers) so we’ll see you in a little while, okay? (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of “Dancing in the Dark”
“Sometimes I feel…I get feeling so lonely…and sometimes I can’t stand myself…and that’s when I wanna reach out…to somebody somewhere for a little help…I wanna say “Hey, baby”…”
Intro to “I’m on Fire”
“I remember coming home late…when I lived at home with my folks …I’d stand in the driveway and I’d look through the screen door and I could see my father sitting in the kitchen…waiting for me to go in …and it seemed like the only time he’d want to talk to me…was after he’d been sitting there for a while…it seemed like he was always, always angry…always mad…always (?)…he’d sit there all night thinking about everything he wasn’t ever gonna have…till he’d get me thinking like that too…I’d lay up in bed…and I’d think that if something didn’t happen…if something…if something didn’t happen to me…I felt like I was just gonna…I felt like someday I’d just…I felt like I was just gonna…”
Middle of “Rosalita”
“Alright, ladies and gentlemen (crowd cheers) children of all ages (crowd cheers) and all you French people out there (crowd cheers) it’s time to introduce the E Street Band (crowd cheers) I would like to begin…by mentioning on the piano, Professor Roy Bittan (crowd cheers) on the vocals, Miss Patti Scialfa (crowd cheers) on the drums, his mightiness, Mighty Max Weinberg (crowd cheers) on the organ, Phantom Dan Federici (crowd cheers) on the bass, Mr. Garry W. Tallent (crowd cheers) on the guitar, Mr. Nils Lofgren (crowd cheers) and last but not least (crowd cheers) you know who I’m talking about now (crowd cheers) do I have to say his name? (crowd cheers) do I have to say his name? (crowd cheers) let me just say he’s the handsomest man, the biggest man you’ve ever seen, in this corner weighing in at 265 pounds, the undefeated champion of the world…give me a C (crowd: “C”) L (crowd: “L”) A (crowd: “A”) R (crowd: “R”) E (crowd: “E”) N (crowd: “N”) C (crowd: “C”) E (crowd: “E”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence”) what’s that spell? (crowd: “Clarence”) Clarence “Big Man” Clemons on the saxophone (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
“I guess…I was ten years old, I probably learned more from Elvis Presley than I learned in school or at home…rock and roll in general …I was lucky, I guess, at a time in my life when I felt like, uh… like I wanted to die, it gave me a reason to wanna go on living (chuckles) so…I guess all I’d like to say is first I’d like to thank youse all for coming down to the shows that we did here in Paris (crowd cheers) we don’t get over here that much and, uh…I’d like to thank you for supporting our band over the years, the past ten years (crowd cheers) want you to know we appreciate it…and, uh, this is for you and here’s wishing you the longest of life and the best of everything (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Ramrod”
“Almost got a full moon tonight now (howls)…”
Middle of “Twist and Shout”
“But can you do it all night long, that’s what I wanna know (crowd cheers) are you sure? (crowd cheers) are you positive? (crowd cheers)…
(…) Now you guys ought to join the band (crowd cheers) oh yeah (crowd keeps singing) but now before I go…there’s one thing I gotta know…I need the answer to one question…I can’t leave France without the answer…without the answer to this question… now what I wanna know is…what I have to know is…what I need to know is…what I came all the way here to find out is…what I came to Paris to find out is…Do you love me?…”
After “Twist and Shout”
“Thank you…goodnight, I love you, you’re great, thank you (crowd cheers)…”
After “Rockin’ All Over the World”
“Thanks, we’ll be seeing you (crowd cheers) thank you (crowd cheers)…”

Eryan | I was 20 years old and it was for me the first rock and roll show. Since twenty six years I have seen many shows and this one is still the best I have ever seen. |
