Intro to "Spare Parts"
´´How you doing out there tonight, huh ? (cheers)….how´re you guys back there ? (cheers) ….this is a song about putting the past away….the past is a funny thing, it kind of binds us all together in our memories and in experience….but it´s also something that kind of can hold you down….keep you from….keep you from finding something new out there, you get stuck with your old dreams that ain´t coming true….and the world´s got a little handle by which it breaks your heart over and over again….well, this next song is a song about a woman trying to….put the part of her past that´s holding her down behind her….she´s trying to understand the value of her own individual existence….and the value of the life of her child…..it seems no matter what we do or where we go that the value of our own lives and the time that we have here always seems to slip in and out on us….so this is a song about a woman struggling to put….put away her old dreams….and find something new and beautiful and meaningful in her life….”
Intro to "You Can Look"
´´Alright….this is about that favorite American pastime….going down to the mall on Saturday morning….it´s about, uh, shopping, window shopping….”
Intro to "I´m a Coward"
´´Is there anybody alive out there tonight ? (cheers) is there anybody with the living spirit out there tonight ? (cheers)….that´s good….because…..what I want to know is….are there any rough, tough, brave, courageous Long Island men out there tonight ? (cheers)….are there any macho men out there tonight? (cheers)….because I´ve known men that would swim rivers ….that would climb mountains….that would wrestle with the beasts of the jungle….but there was one thing that they was afraid of….and I´m gonna tell you what that one thing was….I´m talking about L-U-V, love, that´s what I´m talking about….(?)….now, are there any….brave, heroic Long Island women out there tonight ? (cheers)….are there any courageous, young Long Island girls out there tonight? (cheers) that´s good because I´m talking to you too….I´ve known women….that would swim down the Amazon River wrestling with alligators, crocodiles, crawling king snakes….jump out of airplanes at 30,000 feet….but they was afraid of love….love sent ´em running home to their mommies….now I´m down here tonight because I´ve got a confession to make….I have something I wanna testify to you about….I´m not ashamed because I have sinned !….and I don´t need no Jim Swaggert, I don´t need no Jim Baker, no Pat Robertson to forgive me…..that boy can kiss my ass, baby….that Jerry Falwell, he can kiss ass three times (?)….because there ain´t much that I´m afraid of….but I´ve got to admit…..I´ve got to confess….that I am a coward….when it comes to love….”
Intro to "Part Man Part Monkey"
´´They had this TV-movie on last week, uh….was Kirk Douglas and some other guy….they put a fellow on trial for teaching evolution, it kind of, it went like this….”
End of "Dancing in the Dark"
´´Have you ever been lonely ?….have you ever been so lonely now ?…. that´s when you wanna reach out….to somebody….who can remind you that you´re a member of the, uh, human race…..now where were all you girls when I was in high school ?….I just wanna say
hey now, pretty baby….´´
Middle of "Light of Day"
´´On the piano, Professor Roy Bittan….on the drums, the Mighty Max Weinberg….on the guitar and vocals, Miss Patti Scialfa….on the guitar, the great Nils Lofgren…..on the bass, Mr. Garry W.Tallent….on the organ, Dan Federici…..back on the horns, Eddie ´Kingfish´ Manion, Richie La Bamba, Mark ´The Love Man´ Pender and Mario Cruz, the Tunnel of Love horns….and last but not least…..and get straight to it….the handsomest man you ever seen….Clarence ´Big Man´ Clemons on the saxophone….´´
Intro to "Born to Run"
´´Thank you, thanks….this is a song, uh….I wrote it, I guess 14 or 15 years ago….I was sitting in my, sitting in my bedroom in Long Branch, New Jersey….(?)….and uh….I started to write this song, it took me quite a while to finish it….and I guess I´ve sung it just about every show ever since….and when we were coming out on this tour, I was wondering how I was gonna do it and uh….how it was gonna fit in now to the things that I wanted to sing about and talk about….I wanna come out and sing a new song, that´s my job….(?) and uh….guess over the years I´ve sat in my room a lot and I´ve played it by myself on, on an acoustic guitar ….and when I wrote it, I guess I thought I was writing about a guy and a girl who wanted to run and keep on running….and uh….as I sang it through the years, I´ve realised….I began to ask myself a lot of questions I guess that I´d written into this song….(?) you get away, you get out there and you can go but where are you going ?….that individual freedom ends up not being very much if it´s not connected to friends and family and community….and I realised that they were two people who were really out, they went out into the world looking for a, looking for a home, looking for a place they could stand and make some sort of decent life for themselves….and as I got older, I realised that home wasn´t out there but that it was buried deep inside of you….and I guess the hardest part about growing up and getting older is learning to live with the fact that there is so much sadness and so much beauty side by side in our world….and trying to understand that you are not powerless, you can do something about it….so, uh….we got a special dedication….I´ll do this tonight for Steven and Pat McDonald….(?) live with the sadness and find something out there….and I´d like to do it for you….this song´s kept me good company on my search, I hope it´s kept you good company on yours….”
(Steven McDonald is a New York police officer who was shot and paralyzed in the line of duty).
Intro to "Love Me Tender"
´´I wanna thank everybody for coming down to the shows here on Long Island….I´d like to do this for you wishing you a….safe passage….through the tunnel of love….”
Intro to "Rosalita"
´´Now I´m gonna deal with the questions of the evening….does the hero get the girl ?….does her mama come down and put a stop to it ?….does her daddy come down and wring his neck ?…. does he end up broke, busted and disgusted ?…the answer to these and other mysteries will now be revealed….”
Intro to "Detroit Medley"
´´But that's not the end of the story….they drove out of New Jersey….they drove into New York….they drove right along Long Island….there was a little bar by the side of the road….they stopped in, they got a couple of beers, there was a band on the bandstand and the band leader said ´Is this Detroit ?´ (crowd : ´No´) what the fuck, we´ll do it anyway….”
Intro to "Raise Your Hand"
´´I don´t like to leave ´em standing up, come on, band…..are you ready for some religious liberation ? (cheers) some spiritual affirmation ? (cheers) some sexual consummation ? (cheers) then just raise your hand….”
