Intro to "Tunnel of Love"
´´Ready to go ? (cheers)….´´
Intro to "All That Heaven Will Allow"
´´Man, this is my kind of weather, you know….got that sun coming out like that….all the girls are leaving their winterclothes home…..everybody starts feeling a little, uh…..better (chuckles)….you get a day like this, I like to take a walk in the park and see if any of my old friends are around, you know….yo ! hey, man ! yo ! (?)….good to see you….damn, you look good….what you been doing ?….staying home, yeah, staying home, I know….what´ve you been up to ? oh….oh yeah, here come the baby pictures….there´s a little Big Man running around out there now….he´s three, three years old, playing a saxophone already !….playing the guitar too….he´s gonna cover the whole thing, you know….a lot of little babies running around now….in about another 15 years there´s gonna be a E Street Band Volume Two…. there´ll be a lot of women in it, though (chuckles) yeah….he looks good…..man, we used to sit on this bench like 1974, 75…..we used to come down here and we´d bring a little lunch, like, I´d have like baloney-and-cheese but not the really baloney, I needed the phony, the kind you get at the supermarket, you know, it´s like, you had the peanutbutter-and-jelly and then we had a couple of bottles of beer in a little bag….when the weather got nice, we would just sit around because there was this big office building down on the corner and like right about, right about now, all these girls used to come out of work…..and we´d, you know, we´d sit here…..(?) they´re gonna be coming…..here they come…..check, uh…..they, they look younger though now, I don´t look, I don´t look no older, do I ?….you don´t look older at all (?) check the one in the blue, blue skirt, here she comes…..(chuckles) I ain´t gonna embarrass you, I won´t embarrass you…..I was with you, I remember I was with you the night you met your wife…..Clarence was overseas, he came running into my room, said ´Bruce, I met the girl I´m gonna marry´….but he used to say that every single time…..so I´d go ´Yeah, that´s great, Clarence, I´m gonna go to bed, that´s, that´s great, that´s great´….and then he did, then you did…..remember what it was like the first time that she came walking into that room ?…. you´re checking her out…..back, like back, back in New Jersey it kind of feels (?)….she was tall….oh yeah…..that´s the old days, now, man, remember we used to stay out till 4 a.m, remember ?….we´d come back after the show and…..now, now I´m in, uh, I´m in bed by 11.30 now….I am ! she goes to bed, that´s when I gotta go….but she lets me watch ´The Honeymooners´ till 12 o´clock….´´
Intro to "Spare Parts"
´´How´s it going out there, huh ? (cheers) how you doing back there tonight ? (cheers) that´s good….so I was sitting at home trying to figure….what I wanted to come out and kind of talk to you about and sing to you about…..when we came out on the road this time….I knew that, uh….you know, it was time to put part of the past away….which is a hard thing for….it´s a hard thing to do ´cause the past is something that, I guess, kind of binds us all together in our memories….and uh….and uh….at the same time, it´s something that can drag you down and keep you in one place, keep you from discovering anything new, keep you from growing up ….and uh, just like I knew I didn´t wanna come out and end up doing an oldies act, your life can turn into an oldies act if you´re not careful (chuckles)….so this is a song about a woman, about a woman trying to put the part of her past away that….that´s been holding her down and breaking her heart over and over again….it´s about a woman trying to understand the value of her own individual life….and the value of the life of her child…..it seems like the value of our lives is something that no matter where you go or what you become, it slips in and out on us all the time…..and so this is about a woman struggling to put down her old dreams and to find something new and beautiful and meaningful in her life once….”
Intro to "You Can Look"
´´Well, alright now….this is a song about, uh…..that great American pastime…..shopping…. they say that (?) only women like to go shopping and men don´t wanna go shopping….I don´t think that´s true, I, I like to go shopping…..or standing on the corner window-shopping….you got that Home Shopping Network down here ? (cheers) I hate that goddamn thing…..´´
Intro to "I´m a Coward"
´´Is there anybody alive out there tonight ? (cheers) is there anybody with the living and breathing spirit in them out there tonight ? (cheers) that´s good because…..I´ve got something I need to know….are there any rough, tough Maryland men out there tonight ? (cheers) any macho Virginia men out there tonight ? (cheers) because I´ve known men that would swim rivers, climb mountains, walk into the fire, wrestle with the beasts of the jungle….but there was one thing they was afraid of…..and I´m gonna tell you what that one thing was….what I´m talking about is L-U-V, I´m talking about love…..love scared ´em to death…..now, are there any brave, courageous, heroic young women out there tonight ? (cheers) do we have any rough, tough, ready-to-rumble girls out there tonight? (cheers) that´s good because I´m talking to you too….´cause I´ve known women that would canoe down the Amazon, I´ve known women that would date the horn section in this band…..I´ve known women that would wrestle with alligators and crocodiles but they was afraid of love, love scared ´em…. made ´em run home to their mommies….now I´m down here tonight because I have got a confession I have to make….I´ve got to lay my burden down, I´ve got to get something off my shoulders….and what I wanna say is I have sinned !…..and I don´t need no Jimmy Swaggert or no Jim Baker or no Pat Robertson to forgive me…..them boys can kiss my ass…. and that Jerry Falwell, he can kiss my ass three times…..because I ain´t afraid of men or beasts….but what I´ve got to confess to is….that I´m a coward…..when it comes to love….”
Intro to " Part Man Part Monkey"
´´They had on this TV-movie last week, uh….was with Kirk Douglas….they put this guy on trial for, uh….teaching evolution, went, it was like this…..”
Intro to "Born to Run"
´´This next song, this is, uh….this is a song I´ve been singing for about 15 years, I guess…..I remember sitting, sitting in the afternoon in my bedroom in Long Branch, New Jersey….(?) ….and I started to write this song….when I look back, I guess this song always surprises me about how much I knew about myself back then….and uh, without myself (chuckles) and uh ….I guess it´s a song that…..as I´ve sung, sung it through the years…..it´s kind of grown up with me…..and uh…..it´s a song in which I get to ask myself a set of questions that I´ve been trying to find out the answers to ever since…..(?)….but uh, when I wrote it, I guess I thought I was writing about a guy and a girl that wanted to run and keep on running…..as I sang it through the years, I realised that just getting away wasn´t good enough…..and individual freedom, even if you´re lucky enough to find it, doesn´t have much meaning without your friends and, and community….(?)….and uh, I realised that what that guy and that girl was really doing was they were looking for a home out there somewhere and as I got older, I realised that that home wasn´t out there but that it was buried deep inside here somewhere ….and I guess we all struggle and search for it and try to find it and then try to hold on to it ….all hard things to do….but anyway, this song has kept me good company on my search, I hope it´s kept you good company on yours….I´d like to do it and dedicate it to you tonight ….”
Intro to "Love Me Tender"
´´I just wanna take a second and thank everybody for coming down to the shows here…. thank you….thank you….it´s nice to be back out on the road, we missed you….I´d like to do this for you, uh…..and your sweetheart, wishing you safe passage through….through the tunnel of love…..´´
Intro to "Rosalita"
´´And now the greatest love song I ever wrote….´´
Intro to "Detroit Medley"
´´(?) boys….what are you guys doing standing there, waiting for a train ?….that´s not, that´s not the end of the story….
(….) I´m just a prisoner….of love !….´´
Intro to "Raise Your Hand"
´´Are you talking to me ? (cheers) are you talking to me ? (cheers) I don´t see nobody else, are you talking to me ? (cheers) then are you ready for some religious liberation ? (cheers) are you ready for some spiritual affirmation ? (cheers) are you ready for some sexual consummation ? (cheers) then raise your hand, everybody….”
