Audience tape. Two recording sources are available. Released on CDR 'Ready For A Ride' (BTS2) and from master (Mark Persic) recording 'Something New & Beautiful' (Ev2). Soundboard-like quality but it's still an audience tape. A second source is available from master (Taper Man Joe) recording (G/Buckshot). A complete professionally shot video recording of "Be True" can be found on the 'Tunnel Of Love Express Tour' DVD (Watchdog). A screenshot DVD also circulates.

´´How you doing out there ? (cheers) man, it´s a nice night….back home you get a day like, a day with weather like this around this time of year….everybody starts coming out….girls leave all their winter clothes home….you start feeling kind of romantic, you know….yeah…. day like today and when I´m back home, I like to take a walk in the park and see if any of my old friends are still around….yo ! hey ! hey, man, what are you doing ? (chuckles) alright, good to see you, I heard you moved to California, man, jeez….hearts are breaking in New Jersey now (chuckles) God, it´s good to see you here though….yeah (chuckles) what you been doing ?….you don´t ever tell me, you don´t ever call me, nah, it´s alright (chuckles) what do you got ? oh-oh, oh-oh, here come the baby pictures….there´s a little Big Man running around out there tonight…..oh yeah (chuckles) he´s three years old, right ? three, he´s got a little saxophone….he´s got his own apartment already (chuckles) drives his own car (chuckles) he´s handsome too, like his daddy (chuckles) oh…..a lot of little babies around these days….another 15 years, there´s gonna be another E Street Band Volume 2 out there….
(chuckles) oh Jesus (chuckles) man, remember we used to sit on this bench in 1975 ?….yeah, you see there was this big office building down on the corner….and me and Clarence used to come down here every day about 4.30 when the girls got out of work….´cause they used to have to come walking right down this street so we used to bring down like, uh, boloney-and-cheese sandwich (chuckles) with the mustard and uh….couple of bottles of beer, you know, in a little bag and some cards (chuckles) and we used to sit ´em right here and wait for the girls to get out (chuckles) they used to get out right about this time, man….here they come, they still come….check this one over here, uh….yeah, the one, the one in a white blouse, check, check….come back ! (chuckles) ok, oh, man (chuckles) man, I remember I was with you the night you met your wife….you should see Clarence the night he meets his wife, you know, we´re in like, there´s this little party going on and she comes walking in the room…. and he goes, he runs into the bathroom and makes sure he´s looking real good (chuckles) you had that stuff you used to put on you all the time, that patchuli oil or something (chuckles)(?) and then he comes out and he´s with her but he´s acting like, he´s acting a whole lot nicer than he really is, you know (chuckles) we´ll let her find out later, you know (chuckles) oh, man, it was funny, then I was your best man too, alright, that´s nice (chuckles)
anyway, you know that feeling when they first come walking into the room and you see ´em ?…. like, back in New Jersey, man, it feels, feels kind of like this…come on, do it, Richie…. oh yeah….you know all that romantic stuff, you know, you do anything they wanna do, bringing ´em flowers all the time….you gotta cease the moment, you know…but now, oh ….I gotta get going home, yeah….remember we used to stay out till 4 a.m ? I gotta be home, like, 11.30….. I get to watch The Honeymooners for a half an hour, then I gotta go to bed (chuckles) see you later, you´re still carrying that thing….”
Intro to "Spare Parts"
''How you doing out there tonight, alright ? (cheers) how´re you guys way in the back there ? (cheers)….there was this fella and this girl and they met in a little bar down along the coast …..and uh, he was a house painter….and he was kind of young and a little wild and reckless ….wasn´t saving no money (chuckles) and uh, she was a little older….and uh, she was looking for somebody to love her….and uh….and they went out, they….there was stuff about him that she really like, he was kind of sweet tempered and…..and, you know, making jokes all the time….and they moved into a little apartment, about….two blocks in off the beach in the wintertime…..and for a while things were real good…and then she got pregnant and they were making plans to be married, he got her a ring and she went out and found a dress….and then I guess maybe he got a little scared….or he was a little too young or something ´cause he took off….headed south and uh….but she never really let him go…she kept him in her mind and she kept him in her heart….and it was like an old dream that the world would take and just break your heart over and over again every day….because he wasn´t ever coming back….and there comes a time when you gotta take the past and you gotta put it away….and uh, I wrote this song about a woman , a woman struggling to understand the value of her own individual existence…..and the value of the life of her child…..struggling to put old things behind her and to find something new and beautiful and meaningful in her life now….."
Intro to "You Can Look"
´´Alright, San Francisco….oh yeah….here´s a song about, uh…..that great American pastime ….no, not that one….that´s the old one….I´m talking about shopping…oh yeah….you know, uh….they got that Home Shopping Network up here ?….they don´t have that up here ?…they must have it….it´s taking over from all them religious shows, you know…you know, it was 89.95, now it´s 69.95, now it´s 39.95, now it´s 19.95, slice and dice ´em, send in (?) we´ll send you a free pair of stake knives….to stab your hubby with….”
Intro to "I´m a Coward"
´´Is there anybody alive out there tonight ? (cheers) is there anybody that can feel the living, breathing spirit in them out there tonight ? (cheers)….that´s good….because…..what I want to know is….do we have any rough, tough San Francisco men in the audience tonight ? (cheers) ….I ain't talking about you old hippies out there…..I mean do we have any macho men out there tonight ? (cheers)….because I've known men that would swim rivers, that would climb mountains and wrestle with the beasts of the jungle…..but there was one thing they was afraid of ….one thing scared ´em….you wanna know what that was ?….you wanna know what that one thing was…..what I´m talking about is L-U-V, I'm talking about love…..have you ever heard of it ?….that´s right….love scared ´em, made them run home to their mommies ….now, what I wanna know is are there any brave, courageous San Francisco women out there tonight ? (cheers) come on, girls, come on (cheers) do we have any sweet, rough, tough, sexy San Francisco women out there ? (cheers)….because, girls, I'm talking to you too ….I don´t care where you´re from out here, San Jose, San Mateo, (?), I´m talking to you…. I´ve known women that would jump out of airplanes at 30,000 feet….but there was one thing that they was afraid of….they were afraid of love….am I talking about you ? am I talking about you ?…. now, I'm down here tonight because I´ve got a confession I´ve got to make…. and what I wanna say is I have sinned !….and I ain´t ashamed to say it and I don´t need no Jimmy Swaggert or Jim Baker or Pat Robertson to forgive me, them boys can kiss my ass…. and that Jerry Falwell, he can kiss my ass twice, both cheeks, baby….because I´m not afraid of man-made things….but what I´ve got to say is….that I'm a coward …..when it comes to love…."
Intro to "Part Man Part Monkey"
´´Man, they had this TV-movie on about a month ago, it was with Kirk Douglas….they put the guy on trial for, uh….teaching, uh….teaching, uh….it went like this…..”

´´This is for you, Pops….”
Intro to "Born to Run"
''Thank you….this is uh, before we came out on tour, I was sitting around home trying to decide what we were gonna be doing out here this time….what, uh, what I felt I wanted to sing….and say to you….and I was looking through, uh….bunch of my songs and this is a song that I´ve sung I guess….Ï´d be sitting around in my bedroom and I´d pick up my guitar and I´d sing it like this, it´s a song I wrote 15 years ago….I was 24, I was living in New Jersey, Long Branch, New Jersey…and uh….and my parents had, had come out right around here, they live right around here….a few years earlier….and uh….I guess I think back on this song and it surprises me about how much I knew….about what I wanted when I was so young…. ´cause the questions that I asked myself in this song, I´ve been trying to chase down them answers ever since….and when I wrote it, I thought I was writing about a guy and a girl who wanted to get in the car and run and keep on running…..that was, uh, that was a nice romantic idea….and uh, as I got older and I realised ´Gee, I put all these people in these cars, I´m gonna have to find some place for 'em to go´ (chuckles)….and I guess I realised that those two people were out there looking, looking for some connection….which is, uh, which is I guess mainly what I´m doing here tonight….they were looking for connection and some place that maybe they could stand and make their own andcall 'home'….and I realised later that home really wasn´t out there but that it was buried deep inside of me someplace….and that if I fought for it and if I struggled for it enough and if you tried to keep my eye as true as possible, I might be able to get a little piece of it sometime….anyway, I´d, uh….I wanna do this song tonight for all, for all of you…..uh….wishing….wishing with all my heart that, uh…. you have a safe trip to, uh….to home…..”
Intro to "Glory Days"
´´This is for all you old suckers out there…..”
Intro to "Rosalita"
´´Great God almighty….alright….this is where, uh, we clear up the questions of the evening ….any questions from the audience, oh no (chuckles) the real question is does the hero get the girl ?….does her mama stop ´em `….does her daddy wring his neck ?….does he end up broke, busted and disgusted ?….the answers to these and other mysteries will now be revealed….”
Intro to "Have Love Will Travel"
''We didn´t come all the way from New Jersey to stop now, boys, get back to those things, man, come on, come on, let´s do it…..let me tell you…..we´re here tonight….with a mission in mind….we came all the way from New Jersey, baby, that´s way the hell on the other side…. and we didn´t take no fancy rock star airplane either…..screw that bullshit….we drove in a station wagon for two weeks the whole damn way….we….uh….alright, alright, we did take one of them fancy rock star airplanes but we thought about driving….because, hit it, man….. because I´m here tonight to let you know that if anybody needs a little affection….do you need a little love out there ? (cheers) do you need a little attention ? (cheers) do you need a little snuggling ? (cheers) do you need a little kissing ? (cheers)….because our motto tonight is 'Have Love Will Travel'…."
Intro to "Sweet Soul Music"
''I told you….you think I must be getting tired about now….you´re thinking I might be wearing down a little bit, don´t you ?….well, I´d like to let you know that fresh air invigorates me….and that I´m just about to get my second wind….now do you think you can stand it ? (cheers) do you think you can take it ? (cheers) you ain´t faking me now (cheers) you sure you ain´t bullshitting me now ? (cheers) then I´ve got a question that I wanna ask you….."
Intro to "Raise Your Hand"
''Are you trying to get my attention ? (cheers) well, I´ve been working my ass off three hours, you better yell louder than that….are you talking to me ?….are you talking to me ? ….are you talking to me ?….then are you ready for a little religious liberation ?….are you ready for a little spiritual affirmation ?….are you ready for some sexual consummation ?… then raise your hand one time…..
(….) Now, before I go there´s one thing I've got to know….is there something you need ?….is there something you want ?….is there something that you´ve got to have…..then just raise your hand….."
End of "Dancing in the Dark"
´´Have you ever been so lonely….it feels like your whole world is just falling apart now…. that´s when I gotta reach out…..for a little help from somebody….(?)….I need a partner, baby ….´´
