´´So how you doing out there ? (cheers)….good, so is this what springtime in Holland´s like ? (cheers) where´s the sun ?….back home this time of year….air gets real clear….I like to get outside….girls leave all their winter clothes home….oh yeah….like to take my jacket off, take a walk in the park….gotta see if any of my old friends are still around, you know….like back from 1975….alright….hey, man, yo, how you doing ? alright, good to see you….what do you say ?….haven´t seen you in a while….what´ve you been doing ?….yeah, howcome don´t you ever call me ? you never call me….been busy ? yeah, oh….oh (chuckles) we´ve got baby pictures here (chuckles) Clarence´s got a little Big Man running around out there….he´s got a little saxophone, he´s got a little guitar too….he´s three years old and almost as handsome as his dad (chuckles)….not quite though….man, I remember I was with you the night….the night you met your wife, you know…we were….we were over here in Europe, we were at this little party…it was late at night (chuckles) and this girl comes walking in the room….I can always tell when Clarence is ready because he runs right into the bathroom, you see (chuckles) and he carries all this stuff with him, like patchuli oil, he puts him on so he smells good….makes sure his hair is right and checks out his shirt (chuckles) stands, he like poses in front of the mirror for a while (chuckles)….and then he comes out and he walks real slow up to the bar ….and he doesn´t stand right next to her, you see that´s, that´s no good, he stands like one person away and acts like he doesn´t notice….then he kind of slips his hand behind this one guy and slowly pulls him back, slides over next to, next to the girl and he puts on what I call his ´love-face´….now, Clarence´s love-face, that´s when he´s being a whole lot nicer than he really is (chuckles)….you´re pretty nice, though (chuckles) that was nice, it was good, remember how you felt when she first come walking in the room ? sing it, guys, come on, Ritchie !….man, we used to stay out, we go to little clubs and jam all night long….you ready to do that tonight ?….you wanna stay out tonight, yeah ? you wanna stay out tonight ? you guys ready to stay out tonight ? ´´You alright out there ? (cheers)….that´s good…..there was this guy and….and this girl, they met in this little shot-and-beer bar….in this little seaside town…..and uh, he was a house painter, he was kind of young, in his early 20´s….you know, making his money and spending it ´soon as he could get it….she was a little bit older….and they met on the weekend…..and uh, he was….I can always remember her saying that he was real sort of a sweet-tempered kind of guy, always, you know, telling jokes, stupid jokes to keep her smiling….and they moved in together in this little garage apartment….and uh, he saved up his money for the first time….she got pregnant, he went down and bought her a ring and came back home and surprised her….and things were going really nice….they made plans to get married, called up her mama and her papa and told ´em….and then I guess he got scared because….maybe he was a little young but he took off on her, headed down south….and the problem was that she never really let him go, she kept him in her mind and she kept him in her heart and when she got in bed at night, she saw his face….and when she woke up in the morning, she still had his things in the closet…..and the problem was that he wasn´t ever coming back….and so the world took that old dream and broke her heart with it every….every damn day….because there comes a time when you gotta take the past, no matter how much you love it, and you gotta put it away….now, this is a song about a woman struggling to understand the value of her own independent existence….and the value of the life of her child….throw those old things away….and to find something new and beautiful and meaningful in her life now….”

”Now, ever since you´re a little baby…you always get told the same thing….you crawl across that floor, your mama says….´Now, don´t touch that thing´….going towards that TV set, ´Now, don´t touch it…you can look at it but you can´t touch it´….and you´re a little boy, you go down to the store downtown….into the toy department, saleslady comes up to you, says ´Son….don´t touch that thing now….you can look at it….but you can´t play with it´….and then you go out with your girl on a date in high school….you find a little quiet place to park….a couple of cans of beer….you lean over….you´re acting real sweet….you whisper ´Oh honey, I love you….I really do´….and she says ´Yeah, but….don´t touch that thing….you can look at it but you can´t touch it´….”

´´Is there anybody alive out there tonight ? (cheers)….is there anybody that can feel the living, breathing spirit in their souls out there tonight ? (cheers)….that´s good…..because…. I´ve got a question that I need answered….because I´m down here tonight to testify about something….and what I want to know is….are there any brave, heroic Rotterdam men out there in the audience tonight ? (cheers)….are there any macho men out there ? (cheers) …. because I’ve seen men that would swim rivers, climb mountains, wrestle with the beasts of the jungle….but there was one thing that they was afraid of…..there was one little thing that scared these brave men to death….you wanna know what that was ?….I´m gonna tell you what that was….I´m talking about L….U…V, I’m talking about love, love scared ´em to death….that´s right, when they got next to love, they ran home like little babies to their mommies….now, do we have any brave, heroic, courageous women in the crowd tonight ? (cheers)….do we have any sweet, sexy, strong women out there tonight ? (cheers)….because I’m talking to you too…. I’ve known women that when they got next to love, they ran away, they ran home…..back to their loneliness…..now, I’m not down here pointing a finger….I wanna say…that I´m a brave man….I´m not afraid of earthly things….but what I´ve got to confess to is….that I’m a coward when it comes to love……”

´´Here´s a song I´d like to do for any of my old fans in the crowd (cheers)…played this song when I first came to this country, uh….I guess, 1975….and uh, I´ve been playing it ever since, it´s kind of a song that´s grown up with me…..I was 24 years old when I wrote it….surprises me about how much I knew about my life then….´cause the, uh, questions I asked myself in this song, I´ve been chasing down the answers to ever since….so it´s kept me good company on my search, I hope it´s kept you good company on yours….I´d like to do this for you all tonight, wishing, wishing you all the most of love, home and happiness….”
