“Thank you…ah…that was a song, uh…I wrote that song just a little while after my, my little boy was born (crowd cheers) yeah…we got a beautiful son now, a beautiful daughter (chuckles)…it’s good… very good…it’s uh…kids are funny, they kind of…I don’t know, they can always pull you outside of yourself in a good way…I think (?) being a songwriter or anybody, we all spend so much time living inside our own heads, our kids come along, they say “Come out of there, come out into the real world and play,” you know (chuckles) it’s nice…wakes you up…but, uh…you know, you get those, you get those babies and all those clichés, you know, that you hear all the time, you know, before you have kids, people start talking about their kids, you go “Yeah, yeah” (pretends to snore)(chuckles) it’s boring (chuckles) but, uh, you have those kids, you realize they’re, they’re your afterlife, you know, they’re, they’re what’s gonna be here after you’re gone…I think, uh…you know, it’s a, it’s a scary world to bring kids into, you know, I think that back in the States, it’s, it’s…if you lived through the Los Angeles riots – as everybody really did, thanks to television – you know, you saw, you got a glimpse of a world when, when on a particular day, it didn’t matter what you felt in your heart, it didn’t matter where you stood, it didn’t matter what you believed in, the only thing that mattered is what you look like, as to whether you were gonna live or die…and uh… so we got a big election coming up in the States, important – you got a big one coming up here too, right? (some cheers) the referendum (some boos) hey, you gotta…whatever you think, you gotta get out there and get involved, you know, the kids, they make you wanna get involved, so… (crowd cheers) yeah…so it’s hard, you know…I mean, you know, everybody, you battle that apathy all the time, I battle it all the time, you know, you get older and you really get too old to feel like you’d put your faith in politicians or in rock stars (chuckles) but uh…what you can’t afford to give up, uh, you can’t afford to give up your…it’s just not a time when you can afford to give up hope or…so, anyway, this is a song about trying to get the little things right (chuckles)…and then we’ll get the big things…”
