Audience tape and video. A high quality audience tape circulates, transferred from a first generation copy of DAT master (JEMS).
Intro to "Red Headed Woman"
“(?)…alright, some folks out back requested this song so…”
Intro to "Local Hero"
“I haven’t been up here in a while, it’s good to see you (crowd cheers) thanks for coming out…oh…this next song, I was driving through my hometown and, uh, there was, uh, I looked over into a J.J.Newberry’s five-and-dime store window and I saw like a picture of a, I think it was a German shepherd or it was a Doberman, then there was a picture of me and Bruce Lee all rendered beautifully on black velvet (chuckles) and underneath it said “Sale! 19.99!” (chuckles) kind of put the whole job right in perspective for you, you know (chuckles) anyway – let me hear you, Zach…”
Intro to "Lucky Town"
“Come on, let’s get lucky now, man…”
Intro to "The Big Muddy"
“Thank you…this, uh, this next song, this is a song I think when we’re brought up, you know, we, we’re taught to believe in absolutes as children, that there’s good and there’s evil and there’s right and there’s wrong…as you get a little older, you realize you find yourself stumbling into all those spaces in-between…which is where, I think…we all end up living…so…this is a song about slipping through the cracks…”
Intro to "57 Channels"
“It’s 1992…back in my country, American cities in flames again… you reap what you sow…”
Intro to "If I Should Fall Behind"
“Thank you…ah…that was a song, uh…I wrote that song just a little while after my, my little boy was born (crowd cheers) yeah…we got a beautiful son now, a beautiful daughter (chuckles)…it’s good… very good…it’s uh…kids are funny, they kind of…I don’t know, they can always pull you outside of yourself in a good way…I think (?) being a songwriter or anybody, we all spend so much time living inside our own heads, our kids come along, they say “Come out of there, come out into the real world and play,” you know (chuckles) it’s nice…wakes you up…but, uh…you know, you get those, you get those babies and all those clichés, you know, that you hear all the time, you know, before you have kids, people start talking about their kids, you go “Yeah, yeah” (pretends to snore)(chuckles) it’s boring (chuckles) but, uh, you have those kids, you realize they’re, they’re your afterlife, you know, they’re, they’re what’s gonna be here after you’re gone…I think, uh…you know, it’s a, it’s a scary world to bring kids into, you know, I think that back in the States, it’s, it’s…if you lived through the Los Angeles riots – as everybody really did, thanks to television – you know, you saw, you got a glimpse of a world when, when on a particular day, it didn’t matter what you felt in your heart, it didn’t matter where you stood, it didn’t matter what you believed in, the only thing that mattered is what you look like, as to whether you were gonna live or die…and uh… so we got a big election coming up in the States, important – you got a big one coming up here too, right? (some cheers) the referendum (some boos) hey, you gotta…whatever you think, you gotta get out there and get involved, you know, the kids, they make you wanna get involved, so… (crowd cheers) yeah…so it’s hard, you know…I mean, you know, everybody, you battle that apathy all the time, I battle it all the time, you know, you get older and you really get too old to feel like you’d put your faith in politicians or in rock stars (chuckles) but uh…what you can’t afford to give up, uh, you can’t afford to give up your…it’s just not a time when you can afford to give up hope or…so, anyway, this is a song about trying to get the little things right (chuckles)…and then we’ll get the big things…”
Intro to "Leap of Faith"
“Yeah, alright…man…the kids, we got any babysitters waiting at home tonight? (some cheers)(chuckles) oh, anyway…this next song, this is, uh, let me see, oh, do we have any divorcees in the audience tonight? (some cheers) oh, hey, everybody deserves a second chance, don’t be shy (chuckles) wow, that’s a mess, you know, this is a song (chuckles) this is a song about, uh, uh, love, adultery, divorce, faith – all the things that make life such a big, uh, uh, big fucking mess, you know (chuckles)(laughs from the crowd) but that’s alright…when you get that love, you gotta love again, you’ve got to have faith, you see, when you get that faith, you’ve got to have hope, and wherever there’s hope, there’s sex (crowd cheers) so…this song is about love, faith, hope, divorce, second chances, uh, uh, uh, oh, it’s also a personal diary of my own sexual life in only thinly disguised imagery so listen close, right? (chuckles)…”
End of "Man’s Job"
“Alright, let’s hear it for the women (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Roll of the Dice"
“Oh, bring it down now…yeah, bring it way, way down…let’s make it darker…’cause I…I remember it was a lot darker than this…let’s make it darker…because when it comes, it comes way up out of the darkness…now, have you ever been so lonely?…have you ever been so lost inside?…have you ever felt so lonely?…lost like, uh… like you weren’t sure who you were any more…or what you were feeling…you weren’t sure of any of the things that you loved…well, have you ever felt so lonely? (some cheers) have you ever felt so lost inside?…have you ever felt so lonely?…have you ever felt so brokenhearted? …have you ever…well, it’s just a kiss away…a kiss away…it’s just a kiss away…a kiss away…just a kiss away…that’s where…it’s just a roll away…a roll away…just a roll away…it’s just a roll away…it’s just a roll away…oh, I need a little help now…it’s just a roll away…it’s just a roll away…it’s just a roll away now…it’s just a roll away now…it’s just a roll away now…oh, I need a little help now …(continues with the “roll aways” till the band kicks back in)…”
After "Roll of the Dice"
“Thank you (crowd cheers) it’s just half-time now so save yourself (crowd cheers) we’re gonna take a short break and we’re gonna go backstage, get on the treadmill, run a few miles, lift a little weights, then we’ll be back out here with some more rock’n’roll entertainment for you (crowd cheers) so we’ll see you in a little while, ok? (crowd cheers) …”
Middle of "Light of Day"
“I’m driving one hundred miles…two hundred miles…three hundred miles…still don’t know where I’m going, going four hundred miles… five hundred miles…six hundred miles…still ain’t where I’m going, going seven hundred miles…eight hundred miles…nine hundred miles…one thousand miles…two thousand miles…three thousand miles…the train kept on going…I came thousands and thousands of miles just to be here tonight…came all the way from the great state of New Jersey via Los Angeles…via Sweden, via Italy, via France, via Rome, via London, England, via Chicago, via the great Midwest, down to San Francisco, San Antonio, Phoenix, Arizona, Los Angeles, Seattle, here to Vancouver (crowd cheers) I’m here tonight because of just one thing that I wanna know, there’s only one thing I need to know…I know you’re downhearted…I know you’re depressed…I know you’re disillusioned out there…I know you’re in great despair …I know there’s 57 channels and nothing on…so what I wanna know…what I need to know…is there anybody still alive out there? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Human Touch"
“Thanks, thanks a lot, thank you…oh…this is for you (chuckles)…”
Intro to "Glory Days"
“Thank you…alright…turn this thing up, Freddie…
(…) On the guitar and vocals and percussion, Miss Crystal Talifiero (crowd cheers) on the vocals, Miss Angel Rogers (crowd cheers) Miss Gia Giambotti (crowd cheers) lovely Carol Dennis (crowd cheers) Miss Cleo Kennedy (crowd cheers) soul man, Mr. Bobby King (crowd cheers) the great Shane Fontayne on the guitar (crowd cheers) mad man Tommy Simms on the bass (crowd cheers) the incredible Zach Alford on the drums (crowd cheers) and last but not least…Professor Roy Bittan on the keyboards (the biggest cheers from the crowd)…
(…) Oh, keep on rocking now…don’t ever be stopping…let me see your moves…I wanna see some wild Canadians out there (crowd cheers) oh, that’s good…you’re looking good…(?)…are they looking good up there?…oh, you got it, man…come on, let’s go down to see them…”
Intro to "Thunder Road"
“Thank you, thanks so much…I wanna just take a minute and thank everybody for coming down to the show tonight, thank you very much (crowd cheers) I haven’t been here in a long time and uh…I guess I’d like to say, I’d like to thank all my fans out there tonight for sticking with me (chuckles) (crowd cheers) and uh…this is for all my old fans here, I appreciate your longtime support, thank you (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Born to Run"
“I couldn’t send you home without this one here…let’s go…”
