Intro to "Local Hero"
´´It´s a big night, big night out there….a lot of exciting news, alright….oh, I wrote this song, I was, uh, driving through the town I grew up in….and I looked over into the department store window, it was a J.J.Newberry´s that I used to go in….when I was a kid….I saw a picture of a German shepherd and a doberman, me and Bruce Lee, all lovingly rendered on black velvet….underneath it it said ´Sale 19.99´….that kind of puts the whole job in perspective for you (chuckles) so….”
Intro to "The Big Muddy"
´´Thanks…..thank you….it´s nice to see you….no bombs tonight (?)….uh, this is a song, uh….. I think when we´re, you know, it´s funny you….you sort of bring your kids up to believe in such absolutes, you know, like we were brought up that way, you know, there´s good, there´s evil and there´s a right thing to do and a wrong thing to do and uh….and then as you get older, you get through life and you´ll know about, find out about all those spaces in-between and you gotta make your way through ´em….(?)….”
Intro to "57 Channels"
´´It´s 1992….you see American cities burning again…..well, you reap what you sow….”
Intro to "If I Should Fall Behind"
´´A big night tonight, election night….hope springs eternal and all that stuff…..it was, uh….I wrote that last song…..a little after my son was born, I got a beautiful son now and a little girl ….yeah….and uh…..and I guess, you know, you have those kids and….you have those kids and (?)….the world always looks, you know, it´s a little scarier to you, you start thinking about, you know, your future and afterlife, kids are like your afterlife, they´re your real afterlife and uh….it´s scary time, scary time bringing kids up, worrying about….you know, we lived through the L.A riots which, uh….everybody got a chance to do, thanks to television, guess you kind of saw a vision of a country where on a particular day, it didn´t matter who you were or what you believed in or what you, where you stood (?) or what you felt in your heart about anything, all that mattered is what you looked like to whether you were gonna live or die….and uh, there´s a lot of people who live with that every day….but uh, it´s amazing how little we heard about the greatest American riot of the 20th century during the election year….but anyway, I hope you all voted….and uh, you know, like you get a little older, you feel (?) it´s kind of hard to put too much faith in politicians or, or in rock stars or something (chuckles) but uh (chuckles) but uh….it´d be nice to have an administration, I´ve been saying, that´s at least interested in all the people so….hope will spring eternal….alright …..”
Intro to "Leap of Faith"
´´(?) election night….that´s the night when you kind of can´t afford any cynicism, you know, can´t afford that despair….so speaking of not being able to afford cynicism, do we have any divorcees out there tonight ? (cheers)(chuckles) this is a song about, uh….second chances, you know, no matter how much you get messed up by love, you always keep coming back ….and uh….you know, you always keep coming back to find it again, that takes faith and uh ….´cause where there´s love, there´s faith, there´s hope…..I sound like Jesse Jackson, where there´s love, there´s faith, there´s hope and where there´s hope, there´s always….sex !….oh yeah….so this is a song about all those things, second chances (?)….this is a song about love, faith, hope, sex, uh, divorce, adultery, all the things that make life such a big fucking mess ….it´s also a diary of my own personal sexual habits….in thinly disguised imagery (chuckles) ….so tonight let´s be hopeful….”
Intro to "Gloria´s Eyes"
´´Alright, we got a new President of the United States, Bill Clinton (cheers/boos) (?)…..”
Middle of "Light of Day"
´´I came thousands and thousands of miles just to be here tonight….I came via the great state of New Jersey just to be here tonight….I came via France, via Sweden, via Italy, via Rome, via London, England to be here tonight….via the great city of Chicago, down through the Southwest, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Texas, Vancouver, Canada, Edmonton, Calgary…I know….to get to Milwaukee tonight…..and I´m here tonight for just one reason…. I´m here tonight for just one reason….I´m here tonight with just one question….I´ve got one question that I wanna ask you…..I know you´re downhearted…..I know you´re disenchanted ….I know you´re disillusioned….I know you´re disappointed….I know there´s 57 fucking channels and nothing on…..so there´s just one thing I´ve got to know….is there anybody still alive out there ? (cheers)….”
Middle of "Human Touch"
´´I forgot the words up here (chuckles)….it´ll come to me in a minute, I swear….alright…. Ain´t no mercy on the streets of this town…..”
Intro to "Glory Days"
´´Wo !….had some of the real human touch there tonight (chuckles)….alright….gotta send this one out to President Clinton now….
Intro to "Thunder Road"
´´Oh yeah….thanks, I want to, uh….you see, I haven´t, I haven´t been out playing in a long time, I wanna thank everybody for coming to the show and thanks for the reception here tonight….thanks for, uh….I´d like to thank all my old fans, I´ve been coming here for quite a while….and…..(?) Uptown Theater, was that the name ?….I´d just like to say I appreciate your longtime support, it means a lot to me….. this is uh, this is for all my old fans out there ….”
