Intro to "Better Days"
“Good evening, my friends (crowd cheers) sorry I’m late…”
Intro to "Local Hero"
“How you doing? (crowd cheers) oh!…yeah, sorry I missed you first time out* (chuckles)…alright, I was riding through my, the town I grew up in, there was this old J.J. Newberry’s…and I looked over and seen myself on, uh…woo (chuckles) no, this is the true part (chuckles) seen myself painted lovingly in black velvet along with a German shepherd and Bruce Lee on sale for 19.95…kind of put the whole job right in perspective for me once and for all (chuckles)…”
[ * This show was supposed to take place on October 28th but it was postponed due to Bruce having a sore throat. ]
Intro to "The Big Muddy"
“Thanks (crowd cheers)…this is a song I guess about hard choices, I suppose…uh, I think when we’re young we’re all kind of brought up to believe that, I think our folks teach us that there’s good and that there’s evil and there’s right and there’s wrong and that those lines are easy to discern in some fashion…I think as you get older and you get out into the world, you find out about all those spaces that are in-between of those two things and, uh…sooner or later everybody…finds themselves down there in the Big Muddy (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "57 Channels"
“It’s 1992…you see American cities in flames again…you reap what you sow…”
Intro to "If I Should Fall Behind"
“Thank you, thanks (crowd cheers) yeah…oh man…how’s everybody been out here, huh? (chuckles)(crowd cheers) I haven’t been out here in a long time…but uh…yeah, like I was saying earlier, I hope I didn’t screw you up too much, I got sick as a dog a couple of weeks ago and I would have sounded a lot, lot rougher than I sound normally (chuckles) so…but, uh…since I’ve been here last, let me see, I wrote that last song, that song was about, I wrote that a little while after my son was born and (crowd cheers) I got a little boy and a beautiful little girl now (crowd cheers) (?) I got the pictures, I’m one of those obnoxious parent types (chuckles) anyway, kind of the things that they tell you, you know, I see a lot of folks here with their kids tonight and, uh…sort of what they say all those clichés about, how, you know, the world looks different after you have, after you have those little babies because…I think before that the future sort of remains this very abstract sort of thing, it’s hard to see past yourself a lot and then after I think you got the future’s right there pissing on your leg, you know, so (laughs from the crowd) so that brings it all home real (chuckles) makes it really real (chuckles) you go “Oooh!” (chuckles) but uh…I don’t know, you start thinking about a lot of things in life…I think that…I lived through those Los Angeles riots, as sort of everybody had the chance to do thanks to television, and we got a glimpse of our society on a particular day when it didn’t matter who you were, it didn’t matter where you stood or what you believed in or what you felt in your heart, it only mattered what you looked like as to whether you were gonna live or die…and, uh, that’s a scary world for kids to grow up in, you know, real scary…so this is a song, this song I guess this is…this is a song, maybe it’s one of my best songs about, uh, communication – yeah (chuckles) it’s sort of about getting the small things right and hoping that the big things will follow so…so if you came with your lovers or your babies or your wives or whatever, I’m gonna do this for you tonight – and I’m also gonna do this wishing Bill Clinton good luck (crowd cheers) so… anyway…see if I can get it right…”
Intro to "Leap of Faith"
“Hey…yeah (crowd cheers) thank you (crowd cheers) you’re embarrassing me (crowd cheers) alright (chuckles) this song, this next song is kind of about the vicissitudes of romance (chuckles)… do we have any divorcees out there tonight? (some cheers)(laughs) this song is kind of about, you know, it’s like you keep coming back, you get knocked down, you get stabbed through the heart, humiliated in front of your peers, you know, you keep coming back after that thing because what else is there? so this is a song about finding love, to find love you’ve got to have faith…to have faith, you’ve got to have hope…hopefully, hopefully with love, faith and hope, sex is sure to follow (crowd cheers) so here’s a song about all those things and it’s also a diary of my own personal sexual habits, uh (chuckles) (crowd cheers) in only thinly disguised imagery so… alright, you have love here and you have fear there and the only thing that gets you from here to there is it takes a leap of faith (chuckles)(crowd cheers) so let’s be hopeful (chuckles)…”
Intro to "Man’s Job"
“Come on, Bobby…Bobby King’s gonna help me out (crowd cheers) but first we need some help from the fans (crowd cheers) here we go, one, two (crowd: “one, two, three, four”)…”
Middle of "Roll of the Dice"
“Oh, bring it down now…way, way down now…let’s make it darker now…let’s make it a lot darker…because when it comes, it comes way up out of the darkness…up out of the night…when there’s no hope in sight…have you ever been so lonely?…have you ever felt so lost inside?…have you ever been so lonely?…lost like, uh…like you weren’t sure who you were any more or the choices you were making…(?)…well, have you ever felt so lonely? (crowd cheers) have you ever felt so lost inside? (crowd cheers)…it’s just a kiss away…”
After "Roll of the Dice"
“That’s Bobby King, Cleo Kennedy, Carol Dennis!…this is just half-time (crowd cheers) we’re gonna take a short break, we’re gonna go backstage, lift a few weights, get on the treadmill for a while and we’ll be back out with some more rock’n’soul entertainment for you (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Light of Day"
“…I came thousands and thousands of miles just to be here tonight (crowd cheers) I came thousands of miles from the great state of New Jersey just to be here tonight (crowd cheers) I came via Sweden, via France, via Italy, via Rome, via London, England just to get here tonight (crowd cheers) via New York City, via Philadelphia, via Dallas, via Austin, via San Francisco, via Los Angeles (crowd cheers) where I spent a shit-load of money on a real fancy house, via San Diego (crowd cheers) just to get here tonight – now I’m here tonight with one reason (crowd cheers) I’m here tonight with one thing in mind (crowd cheers) I know you’re downhearted (crowd cheers) I know you’re disappointed (crowd cheers) I know you’re disillusioned (crowd cheers) I know you’re depressed out there (crowd cheers) I know there’s 57 fucking channels and nothing on (crowd cheers) and I know you know I’m here tonight (crowd cheers) I’m here tonight because there’s one thing I’ve got to know (crowd cheers) there’s one thing I need to know (crowd cheers) there’s one thing I’ve got to know (crowd cheers) I said I…I…I…what I wanna know is…(crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers)…”
Middle of "Glory Days"
“On the guitar and vocals and percussion, Miss Crystal Talifiero (crowd cheers) Miss Angel Rogers singing (crowd cheers) Miss Gia Ciambotti (crowd cheers) the lovely Carol Dennis (crowd cheers) Miss Cleo Kennedy (crowd cheers) soul man, Mr. Bobby King (crowd cheers) the great Shane Fontayne on the guitar (crowd cheers) mad man Tommy Simms on the bass (crowd cheers) the incredibly cool Mr. Zak Alford on the drums (crowd cheers) and last but not least…Professor Roy Bittan on the keyboards (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Thunder Road"
“Thank you (crowd cheers) I’d like to stop for a second and thank everybody for coming out to the show tonight, thank you very much (crowd cheers) I’d like to thank all my old fans here in St. Louis for your long-time support, thank you (crowd cheers) thanks for sticking with me (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Born to Run"
“Thank you (crowd cheers) once again thanks for coming out, I haven’t been here in a while so I can’t send you home without this one so here we go (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"
“Hell, it ain’t even twelve o’clock yet (crowd cheers) alright…we got a Christmas present for you, come on! (crowd cheers) play it, Roy! …
(…) Oh, here he comes now…has everybody been good? (crowd cheers) nobody been cheating on their baby? (crowd cheers) alright, that’s good, that’s good…ah, give me a little help now…”
