I was 19 years old when I had the good fortune to witness this incredible show. As a younger Springsteen fan I had heard all of the tales of late-night Asbury Park jam sessions, but had never actually witnessed one myself. All of that was about to change. My friend and I managed to get a great spot right at the front of the stage where we stayed throughout Southside's set. We were having a great time listening to Southside and the Jukes, but in the back of our minds we kept wondering if Bruce was going to make an appearance. It was the 20th anniversary of the Stone Pony and Bruce hadn't played there in a while. After the main set, we could sense a buzz in the crowd. The first thing I saw when I turned to the stage was the trademark baseball hat over the eyes. I could barely contain my excitement as my friend and I literally started jumping up and down and screaming "Bruce!" at the top of our lungs. Bruce was followed onstage by Patti and Jon Bon Jovi. The band didn't waste much time before launching into an amazing version of 'I Played the Fool'. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was like a dream. During 'Funky Broadway' Bruce, armed with a pink Fender Stratocaster, took centerstage and tore it up on guitar. The place went berzerk. Following 'Land of 1,000 Dances' Bruce stepped to the mic to introduce the next song saying, "I always have to play this at least once a summer." He then went into a beautiful rendition of 'Jersey Girl' that had the crowd singing along. The band rocked out on the next two songs, 'I've Been Working Too Hard' and 'Havin' a Party' and called it a night. As far as I was concerned it was a night for the ages and one I will remember for the rest of my life. Thanks Bruce.
