´´Yes, when I was, uh, young (chuckles) I, uh, didn´t write a lot of love songs, my father told me that love songs were government propaganda….and, uh (chuckles) their, their sole purpose was to get you married and have babies and pay taxes (chuckles) uh….but my mother, she was very romantic, she, uh, read all the romance novels (chuckles) and listened to romantic music so when I began to write my love songs, I hid them, I hid them deep inside other songs (chuckles) so these are, these are a few of hidden, the hidden ones, first one, first one, not so hidden (chuckles)….´´

(….) at His mother´s feet….the first thing that strikes you….when you become a parent is how….there is nothing you wouldn´t do to….protect your child from….from harm….it comes as a shock to self-involved musicians especially (chuckles)….
(….) shall pierce your dreams this night….I always figured our choices are given meaning by the things that we sacrifice for them….and I always figured….that Jesus had to be thinking that Galilee was pretty nice this time of year….and there´s a little bar He probably could´ve managed and Mary Magdalene could´ve tended bar….have some kids….and you get to watch the sun fall on their face….and you get to feel the air in your lungs….and you get to see the next day and the next day and the next day and the next day and the next day….´´

´´Ah, we carry with us, we carry with us the seeds of our destruction….and, uh, along with that, we carry with us the seeds to….to bring good things into life, I suppose….with one hand we build things and with the other we destroy….let´s hope this one wins (chuckles) this is a song about a man just figuring out how to come down on the good end, this is called ´Leah´ ….´´

´´Ah, thank you….the, uh….this song is the, the other side of that….that story, this is the seeds of, of our destruction….a song about, uh, a young guy who gets in trouble and leaves home, goes to New Orleans, becomes a champ, quite a champion and sells himself, sells himself….short at the end and, uh, comes back through town and the whole song is basically a conversation he has with his mother towards the end of his life, uh….this is called ´The Hitter, Hitter´….´´

´´Thank you, this is, uh….this is a song I wrote as a sequel to ´Across the Border,´ every year hundreds of people die trying to cross la frontera into the United States….they die in the mountains and in our deserts and in the backs of our trucks and vans and they die in the rivers….this was a song I wrote for them, this song is, the story is told backwards, from the body at the bottom of the river to the walk across the desert to the man standing on the banks of Matamoros, a town across from Brownsville, Texas, this is called ´Matamoros Banks´….´´
