Intro to “Long Time Comin´”
“Thank you….thank you, this is, uh, it´s always, it´s lovely to be back in Sweden…. (?)….this is for the mamas and the papas out there….who, uh….the kids, they give you the, uh….it´s another shot at getting it right, I guess, or getting it wrong (chuckles) uh ….I wish you courage and good luck with your children (chuckles) this is ´Long Time Comin´….”
Intro to “Highway 29”
“Thanks….thank you, the actual, uh….the actual words to that last verse should´ve
truthfully been ´I ain´t gonna fuck it up too bad this time´ (chuckles) so, and, uh
(chuckles) this is from Tom Joad, this is ´Highway 29´….”
Intro to “Incident on 57th Street”
“Thank you….thanks, when I, uh, when I started out, I didn´t write a lot of love songs because, uh, I remembered as a young boy, my father telling me that, that all love songs were government propaganda….and, uh (someone whistles loudly) their main, oh (?) somebody agrees out there, I see, and, uh (chuckles) that their main purpose was, uh, you know, uh, you know, to get you married and, and, uh, have kids and pay taxes and get your nose to the grindstone so that was, uh, that, but then my mother, she had on the Top40 radio every morning and it was in the 1950´s when all the beautiful doowop singers were singing all about, uh, uh, love and, uh, and, and that very 1950´s sort of horniness that, uh (chuckles) that´s hard to replicate but, uh, so I was, you could see I was, I was, I was caught, I, I didn´t know what to do so, so I wrote my love songs but I hid them inside of other songs and, uh, these are a few of those and tonight I wanna, want to, uh, do this particular song in, in memory of Daniel, for Jonas and his family, this is ´Incident on 57th Street´….”
Intro to “Real World”
“Thank you….alright….this is the, the unhidden love song (chuckles) it took me about 30 years, it´s from Human Touch….”
Intro to “Fade Away”
“Thanks, I got a request for this next song from a….I don´t know what it is, it´s some sort of society of me (chuckles) this is, uh (chuckles) it´s one of the weird parts of my life but, uh (chuckles) uh, the guy that gave me the picture, where, are you in here, pal? (two people yell) well, there was only one of you (chuckles) you have, he has since split into multiple personalities….well, at any rate, there was some sort of thing and, and I guess this is for you and all your pals that were doing whatever you were doing (chuckles) alright….I haven´t sung this in about 10,000 years….we´ll see how it goes (chuckles)….”
Intro to “Racing in the Street”
“For my friends….yes, for the…..the society (chuckles)….(?)….oh….alright….(?)…. (people yelling) I´ll figure it out myself (chuckles) I think I heard somebody say this one….”
Intro to “Jesus Was an Only Son”
“Thank you, I was, uh, I was raised a good Catholic boy and I went to Catholic school for, till I was 13, uh, was beat by very good Catholic nuns in, uh (chuckles) in the fashion that was appropriate for the day (chuckles) but, uh, it sort of stays with you, once you, uh, went, went through it, Jesus is forever your homeboy (chuckles) I have a bunch of little pagan babies at home, uh, my mother doesn´t like it but that´s the way that it is (chuckles) this is a song, I was, wrote a lot about mothers and sons and, uh, so I was, I, I just tried to imagine what it would be like looking at Jesus as just somebody´s boy and, uh, knowing the feelings you have to your own sons and daughters and, uh….how at a young age they´re already explaining to you that they have their own destiny, which of course they do, so this is ´Jesus Was an Only Son´ ….
(….) at his mother´s feet….one of the first things that shocks you….when your children come along is how suddenly there´s something on earth that you wouldn´t do nothing, you wouldn´t stop at nothing to protect….and uh….that just finds a life inside you right away….and it´s a life sentence (chuckles) it never stops….Mother prays….
(….) shall pierce your dreams this night….now if you believe that our choices are given weight by the things that we sacrifice for them….it´s what makes them mean something….but I always figured….that Jesus had to be thinking…´That Galilee is pretty nice this time of year and that there´s a little bar down there that I could probably manage and Mary Magdalene could tend bar and I could save the preaching for the weekends and we could have a bunch of kids and get to see the sun fall on their faces….and get to feel the air in your lungs….and see the next day…. and see the next day….and see the next day….and see the next day….and the next day….in the garden at Gethesemane….´´
Intro to “The Hitter”
“Alright, this is a, uh, song about, uh….we carry the seeds of our destruction, uh….I suppose that was, let me go back to some of that Catholic education, let me think, I think that that was, uh, you know, with one hand we build, with one hand we burn and, uh….I suppose that was the price, that was the whole deal when we got tossed out of that Garden of Eden, uh….(?) you´re just free to fuck up if you wanna, you know (chuckles) which, my take on it was that´s the better deal in the long run, you know, what would life be without its fuck-ups? (chuckles) so, uh, I don´t know if that´s the way God planned it but that´s the way He let it be….but you gotta be careful….this is called ´The Hitter´ (chuckles)….”
Intro to “Matamoros Banks”
“Thank you….thanks, this next song, this is a song I wrote as a sequel to ´Across the Border´, uh, a song I used to end The Ghost of Tom Joad-tour with, it´s a similar…. situation, I guess, in the United States, every year hundreds of people die trying to cross the southern border and, uh, they freeze in the mountains, they….they burn in the deserts and, uh….in the backs of vans and in the rivers….uh….this was a song I wrote for them, it tells the story backwards from, uh….a body in the river to a walk across the desert to standing on the banks of….Rio Grande, in-between Matamoros and Brownsville, Texas, this is called ´Matamoros Banks´….”
Intro to “Maria´s Bed”
“Oh, thank you….woo!….I wanna sleep, sleep, sleep tonight in Maria´s bed…..alright, come on, band….”
