Intro to “Radio Nowhere”
“Good evening, Chicago (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Magic”
“Thank you, good evening, Chicago (crowd cheers) we are, we´re living in time when information gets so distorted that it´s easy to make the truth seem like a lie and a lie seem like the truth, this is the title song from our new record, it´s called “Magic”…it´s really not about magic, it´s about tricks…”
Intro to “Livin´ in the Future”
“Good evening, Pittsburgh! (crowd cheers) I´m so glad to be in your beautiful city tonight (crowd cheers) alright, alright…this is a song called “Livin´ In The Future”…but it´s about what´s happening right now…it´s about how all along with all the things that we love about America and our home and where we come from …things like cheeseburgers, French fries, trans-fats, the Jersey (?) Shore, Wrigley Field (some cheers, some boos) U.S.Cellular (some cheers, mostly boos) I, I´m sorry, you don´t have to say (?), that´s all…U.S (chuckles)…but how along with all those things that we love about America and the place we come from, over the past six years we´ve had to add things like rendition, illegal wiretapping, the rolling-back of civil liberties, denial of Habeas Corpus, the loss of the right to defend yourself against charges in court…and you may think that because of the color of your skin or your circumstances or your religion, you may feel that these things don´t have much effect on you but all these things are an attack on our Constitution, which means they´re an attack on our very selves …and who we are and all our moral authority when we get to stand up in the world and say “We are the Americans”…so this is a song about sleeping through changes and things that shouldn´t have happened but have happened here…so tonight we´re gonna do something about it (crowd cheers) we´re gonna sing about it… we´re musicians (chuckles) but, uh, it´s a start, after that it´s up to us…Max!…”
Intro to “The Promised Land”
“Let´s bring it home…”
Intro to “Devil´s Arcade”
“This is for Tom*…”
[*Tom Brokaw]
Intro to “Thunder Road”
“Thanks for coming out tonight, thank you (crowd cheers) oh yeah …alright, oh, let´s see…I tell you what…yeah?…how old are you?… how old are you?…how old are you? twelve? alright…got a lot of young folks up here tonight, that´s nice (crowd cheers)…we´re gonna play this for you, this is my, uh…my young man´s music…I need another guitar…(?) for the young folks…this´ll be a test for our memory, last time we played this was five years ago…we´d been playing it for 35 years before that so (chuckles) maybe it´ll balance out…(chuckles)…”
Intro to “American Land”
“Gonna send this one out to our friends from the Greater Chicago Food Depository…they´re in the hall tonight, they´re out there on the frontlines doing God´s work, helping the struggling citizens of the Chicago area, please, on your way out, give them some support, check them out, the Greater Chicago Food Depository…
(…) Miss Patti Scialfa (crowd cheers) Little Steven Van Zandt (crowd cheers) Sister Soozie Tyrell (crowd cheers) Mr. Garry W. Tallent (crowd cheers) the Mighty Max Weinberg (crowd cheers) Professor Roy Bittan (crowd cheers) “Phantom” Dan Federici (crowd cheers) born in Chicago, Nils Lofgren (crowd cheers) and Clarence “Big Man” Clemons (crowd cheers) Chicago, you´ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, earth-shocking, hard-rocking, booty-shaking, earth-quaking, love-making, educating, liberating, Viagra-taking, extremely invigorating, history-making, legendary (crowd: “E Street Band”)…”

J.W. | Reason to Believe… just incredible… Tunnel of Love, WOW! Was hoping for Thundercrack, but a 12 year old kid in the front row got Bruce to play Thunder Road, which speaks for itself. Tremendous show. How could I forget, Spirit in the Night… awesome… be sure to catch this tour if you haven't yet. New material is mixed in and plays real well. |
Keeder99 | After scoring a GA ticket for $50 I was lucky enough to get a bracelet that had the lucky number for a pit bracelet! The sound was crystal clear in the United Center, the crowd on this night was way more excited than the night before, and Bruce responded in kind. Radio Nowhere blasted out the gate, then Prove It All Night and Lonesome Day… good start… some new stuff came next, and the crowd loved 'em: Gypsy Biker and Magic. Both are very cool live. Then this new ZZ Top style of Reason To Believe, and the crowd goes absolutely nuts!!!! Now Bruce and the rest are feeling it. No time to catch our breath as they pour out Candy's Room (Insane), She's the One (Max!) and Living in the Future, followed by Promised Land, Spirit in the Night and Darlington County, all of which had bursts of the house lights and we could clearly see all 18,000 people on their feet and jamming. Incredible sight. Now Bruce has a friendly chat with the crowd, talks a little politics and leads into Devil's Arcade, Rising, Last to Die (Very cool as well), and Long Walk Home which is an emotional charge deep into the soul at such high volume. Next we hear the crisp piano noted to start Badlands and the roof flies off the building. The only person not jumping out of their shoes was Max! I almost passed out from the adrenaline rush. Bruce then starts to talk about Thundercrack, and is interrupted by the kid that drew the lucky number for the pit passes, and says something about the younger fans haven't heard this one, so what the heck. He then changes guitars and fires into the harmonica the opening rip for Thunder Road! Again the place explodes! Then we get Born to Run, Dancing in the Dark and finally American Land. Holy ! I've seen 18 shows since 1984, and this was it. Bruce and the band wanted to have fun, and if the crowd responds early, the do have fun, and everyone is rewarded!!! |
Neil Welch | Travelled from the UK for these 2 shows. Was 60th through the door into the pit 1st night, 200th or so 2nd night. Both these shows were awesome, 2 great setlists..'Tunnel of love' was a major surprise as was 'sprit in the night'. The Chicago crowd was the best of the 8 US crowds I have seen. And Bruce responded. Thank you Bruce and Chicago FOR A GREAT TRIP. |
