Intro to “Radio Nowhere”
“Washington! (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Magic”
“Thank you very much and good evening, Washington! (crowd cheers) alright…woo!…this is the, uh, title song from our new smash album (crowd cheers) it was a smash, just a little smash, you know, it was a smash for a week or two…but uh…this is a song about, uh, living through a time when the truth gets spun into lies and the lies get spun into truth and the wheel of history turns round and round so, uh…I´ll dedicate this tonight to the city of magic right here (chuckles)…but, uh, this song´s really not about magic, it´s really about tricks…”
Intro to “Livin´ in the Future”
“Oh yeah (crowd cheers)…good evening, fine citizens of Washington! (crowd cheers) we´re so glad to be here in your beautiful city tonight (crowd cheers) it´s always an inspiring place to come to, seeing the Washington Monument and Lincoln and Jefferson…and it brings you back to the things that the country was founded on (crowd cheers) and then there´s also something about the city that reminds me of the handle on the screwdriver (chuckles)…well, this is a song called ´Livin´ In The Future´…but it´s about what´s happening now…about how along with all the beautiful things that we love about America and where we come from and the place that we live…we´ve had to add to the American picture recently things like rendition and illegal wiretapping and the rolling-back of civil liberties, no Habeas Corpus, the right to defend yourself against charges in court…because of the color of your skin or your circumstances or your religion, you may feel that these things don´t have a big effect on your life but all of these things are an attack on our Constitution and affect our pride when we stand up and say “We are Americans” (crowd cheers) so…this is a song about sleeping through things that shouldn´t have happened here that happened here…but the E Street Band is in town tonight to do something about it! (crowd cheers) we´re gonna sing about it…´cause we´re musicians (chuckles)…oh…it´s a start, the rest is up to, to everybody so Max!…”
Intro to “The Promised Land”
“We´re gonna send this one…gonna send this one out, we´ve got the Vets here from Walter Reed* tonight (crowd cheers) we are honored to have them with us and we´re humbled by their service and their sacrifice, we thank them, let´s hear it for ´em! (crowd cheers) this is for Mark and Juan and Jack and Dan…Josh and everybody…”
[According to Backstreets.com, “Before the show, Bruce, Patti, and Evan Springsteen spent the afternoon visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and a contingent from the hospital came out for the concert.”]
Intro to “Town Called Heartbreak”
“Alright, it´s time for some woman power (crowd cheers) let´s hear it, girls (chuckles)…”
Intro to “Devil´s Arcade”
“I´ll send this one out for Veteran´s Day (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Last to Die”
“This is for John!…”
[Presumably for John Kerry, who was in the house and whose words inspired the title of this song.]
Intro to “Girls in Their Summer Clothes”
“Thank you (crowd cheers) thank you (crowd cheers) woo!… alright, this is, uh…going out to our friends in the hall tonight, the Capitol Area Community Foodbank (crowd cheers) the Capitol Area Community Foodbank is the largest (?) foodbank of the Washington D.C metropolitan area, last year they distributed 20 million pounds of food right here in D.C…so these are good folks that are out on the frontlines doing God´s work…helping D.C´s struggling citizens, please give them a hand on your way out, they can use your support, your time or your dollars…Capitol Area Community Foodbank, they´ll be out in the hall tonight…alright, so we´re gonna send this one out tonight to all the D.C girls, the Virginia girls and Maryland girls (crowd cheers) let me hear you, girls (crowd cheers) and one special girl from New Jersey (crowd cheers) …”
Intro to “Thunder Road”
“This is for (Jon?), Matt…”
Intro to “American Land”
“Miss Patti Scialfa (crowd cheers) Garry Tallent (crowd cheers) Little Steven (crowd cheers) Sister Soozie Tyrell (crowd cheers) the Mighty Max Weinberg (crowd cheers) Professor Roy Bittan (crowd cheers) Dan Federici (crowd cheers) Nils Lofgren (crowd cheers) Clarence “Big Man” Clemons (crowd cheers) Washington! (crowd cheers) you´ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, earth-shocking, hard-rocking, booty-shaking, earth-quaking, love-making, Viagra-taking, history-making, legendary (crowd: “E Street Band”)…”

Dream Out Loud | The acoustics in the Verizon Center are not bad. I've seen countless shows there from all over the arena and I've had trouble finding a bad spot. Reportedly, the only bad areas are in the boxes where you have low ceilings. Anyway, show was very good but I could have done without Town Called Heartbreak. I think I prefer Monday's setlist but the show being a song shorter was not preferred. Show really kicked into overdrive starting with Badlands. The encore felt a bit greatest-hitsy, but it was good. |
David | Show was great but that arena is terrible for sound… I was in upper deck on the sides… very hard to hear what he was saying at times and sometimes the music was muddled together… like the comments before Living in the Future I couldn't understand at all… if anyone heard and can post, would appreciate it! I think I will take a stun gun next time to silence the people around me that insisted on carrying on conversations in full voice during the show that had nothing to do with the concert… and they were asked to be quiet several times by those around. |
