Audience tape. 'Unbooted' (Bakerstuff), and released on 'Boston Magic - Night 1' (JB/EV2).
Intro to “Radio Nowhere”
“Boston! (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Magic”
“Good evening, everybody (crowd cheers) good evening, Boston (crowd cheers)…ooh, thank you, I wanna thank everybody for coming out tonight, thanks a lot (crowd cheers) this is, uh, this is the title song of our new LP…and, uh, it´s about living through, living through a time when you watch the truth get twisted till it looks like a lie and lies get twisted till they sound like the truth and, uh, the wheel of history spins round and round and we all go along for the ride so this isn´t really about magic, it´s really about tricks …”
Intro to “Livin´ in the Future”
“Good evening! (crowd cheers) Boston, we´re so glad to be here in your beautiful city tonight (crowd cheers) home of the World Champions (huge cheers from the crowd) you know the rest…this is a song called “Livin´ In The Future”…but it´s about what´s happening now…about how along with all the things that we love about America and the place that we come from…we´ve had to add to the American picture over the past six years things like rendition and illegal wiretapping and the rolling-back of essential civil, civil liberties, no Habeas Corpus, the right to defend yourself against charges brought against you…and because of the color of your skin or your circumstances or your religion, you may feel that these things don´t have a large impact on your life but they, all of these things are an attack on our Constitution, an attack on our sense of ourselves as Americans (crowd cheers) so this is a song about sleeping through changes that shouldn´t have happened here but happened here…but the E Street Band has rolled into town to do something about it! (crowd cheers) we´re gonna sing about it…we´re musicians (chuckles)…that´s a start (chuckles) the rest is up to us, I guess…ready, Max?…”
Intro to “I´ll Work for Your Love”
“Thank you…alright…(?) where are you?…that´s you, oh (chuckles)(?)…alright, I´m kind of like the captain of the ship, I´ve got this guy´s, we´ve got a little proposal going on, alright, get a little light on this thing (crowd cheers) get some light on these people (?) there they are (chuckles) alright, Professor (Roy starts the piano intro) a lesson before you start, oh, there it is…(crowd cheers)…this is for them and Carol…keep it going, Roy – do we have any lovers out there? (crowd cheers) do we have any lovers out there? (crowd cheers) ah, just remember you gotta work, work …”
[At the front of the pit was a guy with a sign that read "We met 15 years ago, I'm proposing tonight!"]
Intro to “Tunnel of Love”
“Next time try a candlelit dinner, a bottle of wine, the usual…”
Intro to “Girls in Their Summer Clothes”
“Thank you, Boston (crowd cheers)…thank you (crowd cheers) thanks for coming out tonight (crowd cheers) woo!…alright, to (Bill?) and Carol here, many years of happiness, my friend…if I had proposed like that, Patti would have killed me (laughter from the crowd) she would kill me…oh…gonna do this for the folks out in the hall tonight from the Greater Boston Foodbank, our guest in the, in the hall tonight (crowd cheers)(?) a lot of hard-working families here in Boston gotta choose between paying for food or paying for heat, the Greater Boston Foodbank, they feed 83,000 people a week …so on your way out please if you can, give ´em some support…so the struggling citizens of Boston area don´t have to make that choice (?) the Greater Boston Foodbank, they can use your time and your support (crowd cheers) alright, this is for all the Massachusetts girls, let´s hear you, girls (crowd cheers) and one special girl from New Jersey…”
Intro to “Jungleland”
“Oh…this is for Brad, my good friend Bob Coles…alright…oh, got some of my oldest fans here, got Ruth, Max´s Mom is here, she´s 92 (crowd cheers) go, baby, go!…got George Travis´ Mom here, she´s (?) she´s 93…(?)…(?) mamas, gonna send this out to them (chuckles) alright, this is for Boston…”
Middle “American Land”
“Miss Patti Scialfa (crowd cheers) Garry Tallent (crowd cheers) Little Steven (crowd cheers) Sister Soozie Tyrell (crowd cheers) the Mighty, Mighty, Mighty Max Weinberg (crowd cheers) Professor Roy Bittan (crowd cheers) Dan “Phantom” Federici (crowd cheers) Nils Lofgren (crowd cheers) Godfather of (?) soul, Clarence “Big Man” Clemons (crowd cheers) Boston! (crowd cheers) you´ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, hard-rocking, earth-shocking, booty-shaking, earth-quaking, love-making, Viagra-taking, history-making, legendary (crowd: “E Street Band”)…”

CB | Awesome show! One nice surprie on the setlist was Jungleland which Bruce said he threw in just for Boston. Nice touch! |
Rob B. | Super High Energy, the Boston crowd is one of a kind, it's no mystery he loves playing here. Reason to Believe, She's the One were stellar and of course Jungleland. After the show we went to a local tap for a brew. When the Pats game was over the bartender started playing Thunder Road nice and loud. Almost as if it were reheaersed the whole bar, at least 100 of us or more, busted into song. The beauty was it didn't let up we just kept going. Great topper to a bang-up Bruce show. |
'Unknown' | Once again, I have come home to my man, Bruce! Having seen him 3 times on the Rising show, this was a very different feel from the Rising and Reunion tours. This show emphasized the new album. The new album has lots of energy and interesting songs, but it is the old stuff that his tried and true fans keep on coming back for. You realize the power and soul of the E Street Band in the material prior to 1984. Badlands, Promised Land and Jungleland are timeless. The vibe he emotes in these songs can not be replicated or duplicated. My frends asked me if this was better than his epic 3.5 hour shows. I just said it is different. The last tour I had the priviledge of see him do some of his best old stuff - For You, Racing, Spirit, Jungleland. I guess I could keep on wanting to hear that stuff because I love it so much but to see him re-invent Reason to Believe or play No Surrender or Jacksons Cage is what makes him so rare. One suggestion for this show is that there are old songs that should be paired with the new songs like how about a 1-2 punch of Living in the Future with 10th Avenue Freeze Out or Magic with The River. I think that Bruce is simply the Best. |
