Intro to “Hard Times”
“Thank you, thank you, we thank you for coming out to our opener (crowd cheers) thank you so much…we appreciate it, this has been a real quick turnaround for our band, I don’t know when we’ve put a record out and got back out on tour that soon since the ‘70s (crowd cheers) and you weren’t even born till the eight, till the ‘90s right there (chuckles)(?) but, uh, we had great, great tours through the States during the “Magic” and, uh, just looking forward to this, we just want to thank you, you’ve been an incredible audience tonight, thanks for setting us off on fire (crowd cheers) appreciate it…this was kind of my neck of the woods for about thirty years, my mom lived up in San Mateo (crowd cheers) so I used to, uh, I used to run my motorcycle there all, all into those mountains and up along the coast, it was so beautiful, I miss that (crowd cheers) but anyway…as you know, we’re going through some of the toughest times the country has seen in a century and it’s put an incredible amount of stress on the grassroots agencies that provide the safety net for the folks that’ve been hit the hardest by what’s happened and, uh, it’s sort of a time when we all gotta double down a little bit, there’s some folks in the hall tonight, you know, we know a night out is expensive but if you can get a chance to pass some up and give them a little support, we’d appreciate that (crowd cheers) we’ve got the Second Harvest Foodbank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties (crowd cheers) Second Harvest Foodbank, they’ve provided services to this community for 35 years, they’re the seventh largest foodbank in the country, they provide food to an average of 176,000 individuals each month and right now that number unfortunately is growing, if you read your newspaper, you see how folks that have gotten by, that have had jobs and have worked hard, are falling out of the middle class and these are the only folks that they can depend on right now when times get very tough, they provide the basics of, of, of life for them so please if you can, help the Second Harvest Foodbank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, we appreciate it (crowd cheers) this is a song (clears his throat) this is a song by Stephen Foster, he wrote it in 1855, which, I guess, shows, uh, the more things change, the more they stay the same sometimes…”
Intro to “Thunder Road”
“(Someone in the crowd hands Bruce a poster of the movie “Thunder Road”)…Somebody brought me this nice Robert Mitchum-poster…I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this picture…this is where I stole the title from, it’s a great little picture if you see it, he directed it, his son’s in it, it’s really, it’s such a strange, it’s a strange picture but it’s really pretty cool and he actually sings the title song – not mine – but, uh, he sings it pretty good too (chuckles) so we’ll do this tonight for Robert Mitchum and the gentleman (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Dancing in the Dark”
“We’ll be right there…”
Intro to “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out”
“Is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) come on!…let me hear you…”
Middle of “American Land”
“Thank you! (crowd cheers) thank you for coming out tonight (crowd cheers) don’t forget the Second Harvest Foodbank…Miss Patti Scialfa (crowd cheers) Little Steven(crowd cheers) Curtis King (crowd cheers) Soozie Tyrell (crowd cheers) the Mighty Max Weinberg (crowd cheers) Garry Tallent (crowd cheers) Professor Roy Bittan (crowd cheers) Charlie Giordano (crowd cheers) Nils Lofgren (crowd cheers) Cindy Mizelle (crowd cheers) and Clarence “Big Man” Clemons (crowd cheers) San Jose! (crowd cheers) San Jose! (crowd cheers) San Jose! (crowd cheers) San Jose! (crowd cheers) San Jose! (crowd cheers) you´ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, hard-rocking, earth-shocking, booty-shaking, love-making, occasionally Viagra-taking, history-making, ain’t shitting, ain’t ever quitting, legendary (crowd: “E Street Band”)…”

Nikky | Liked most of the show, but for me, it lost its magic and steam after Growin' Up. Sunny Day, The Wrestler, Lonesome Day and Radio Nowhere just drained the life from it. I know they'll work out the kinks because the 2nd half needs it. I would have liked for them to focus more on the new cd. Play, What Love can Do, pair it with Human Touch or She's the One, both good songs that will keep the momentum going. Toss in Better Days and Cover Me with Born to Run for something more fresh. And work in This Life with Kingdom of Days and perhaps Back in Your Arms or Fire. Develop the romantic theme that is present on the new cd and plant it into the heart of the show. As the Beatles sang: "All you need is love", put a little love into the shows. |
Owen | Very good show. Strong performance. The band looks and sounds great. Highlights: Opening with Badlands — flat out amazing! Outlaw Pete and Lucky Day sound great live. Out in the Streets — good choice for crowd sing-along. The 4 pack of Seeds, J99, Ghost and Good Eye is just damn amazing. Best part of the show, easily. Strong songs that really hit home right now. Great choice to lift things up with Good Rockin! Keep it in the main set because it will lift the spirits of all in attendance. Growin' Up, the Wrestler and Kingdom of Days were all very good. Born to Run — what a great way to end the main set!! Hard Times was great. A spiritual plea for those hard times to be gone — perfect song choice for this tour. Nice to hear 10TH and LOHAD works well with American Land — some optimism in this down economy. Low points: Sunny Day, Lonesome Day and Dancing need a break. So many other songs would fit nicely. Lonesome Day just kills the momentum Bruce is shooting for. My choices would be to toss in either Cover Me or Prove it all Night and shelve Lonesome. The Wrestler needs another slow song to come before or after. It needs that emotional impact a second song can give it, such as Lost in the Flood or Something in the Night. Overall, a very, very good show. Was hoping to hear Last Carnival for Danny. |
