Third night in Gothenburg is reminiscent of the U.S. leg of the tour, a 35-song set opening with "Meet Me In The City" followed by the entire The River album in sequence. "Two Hearts" includes "It Takes Two" and "Drive All Night" includes a snippet of "Dream Baby Dream". The remainder of the show is standard fare, closing with "Twist And Shout". No acoustic song to close for the first time since the opening show of the European leg. First ever performances in Sweden for "Meet Me In The City", "Crush On You", and "I Wanna Marry You". Intro to “Meet Me in the City”
“I’m impressed (chuckles) (crowd cheers) oh, tack, tack, tack, thank you (crowd cheers) yeah, let’s hear it for them (crowd cheers) that’s beautiful (chuckles) I’m impressed (chuckles) alright, here we go…(?) are we ready? (crowd cheers)…”
[According to Backstreets.com, Bruce and the band were greeted with “a stadium-wide choreographed display in yellow (from the Swedish flag), reading, "Welcome Home, Bruce and the E Street Band."]
Middle of “Meet Me in the City”
“Fint att vara tillbaka (crowd cheers) come on!…”
Intro to “The Ties That Bind”
“Good evening! (crowd cheers) alright, tonight…ah, alright, tonight for Gothenburg we’re gonna do something we’ve only done one other time here in Europe, we’re gonna play “The River”-album from start to finish (crowd cheers) and then on top of it we’re gonna have a house party! (crowd cheers) alright, let’s go…”
Intro to “Sherry Darling”
“Party noises, Gothenburg! (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Independence Day”
““Independence Day” was the first song I wrote about fathers and sons…it’s the kind of song you write when you’re young…and you’re startled by your parents’ humanity and you’re shocked to find out that they had their own dreams and their own expectations…that maybe didn’t pan out exactly as they thought…and all you can see when you’re young are the adult compromises they had to make to build a life…and when you’re young you haven’t had to do that yet so you can’t see the blessings that those compromises bring and all you can see is a world that’s closing in and closing in and all you can think about is how you wanna escape that place…this was a very simple setting for the song that was just two people around the kitchen table late at night…struggling to understand one another…”
Intro to “Crush on You”
“Gothenburg! (crowd cheers) the E Street Band has a crush on you! (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “I Wanna Marry You”
“Max! (Max hits the drum)…I love that sound (chuckles)(Max hits the drum)(chuckles)…(Max hits the drum) ssshh…alright, is there anybody in love out there tonight? (crowd cheers)(chuckles) Sweden is for lovers, is it not? yeah? (chuckles) this was one of the first love songs I ever wrote…it’s sort of a daydream about love, it’s not the real thing but it was as close as I could get…you know, you’re standing on the corner and it’s the middle of the summer and you’re just watching the girls walk by…somebody comes along and sets your imagination on fire…and you’re just thinking…and you’re just thinking…I still see her face…in bed at night…running round my head…when I lie in bed…I still see that face running round my head…as I lie in bed…as I lie in bed…I just dream of that face…I dream of that face…I dream of that face…here she comes walking down the street…here she comes walking down the street …she’s looking so fine, she’s looking so sweet…she’s so fine, she’s so sweet…someday I’m gonna make her mine, I know I will… someday I’m gonna make her mine, I know that I will…someday she’s gonna stop instead of walking by…she’s gonna stop instead of walking by, she’s gonna stop instead of walking by, she’s gonna stop now instead of walking…little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl…little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl…little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl…little girl, little girl, little girl, little girl…oh, my girl, my girl, my girl, my girl…my, my, my girl…my girl, my girl, my girl, my girl…my girl, my girl, my girl …(crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Cadillac Ranch”
“Alright, bury my body down at the Cadillac Ranch (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Ramrod”
“Thank you, alright (crowd cheers) let’s ramrod! (chuckles)…”
Intro to “Wreck on the Highway”
“Well, “The River”…was about time…time slipping away…and how once you enter the adult life…the clock starts ticking…and you walk alongside not just the people you’ve chosen to live your life with… but you walk alongside of…time itself…your own mortality…and you realize…there’s a limited amount of time…to do your work, to raise your family and to try and do something good…to try to do something…good…(music stops) (crowd cheers) that’s “The River!” (crowd cheers)…”
Intro to “Badlands”
“Alright (chuckles) now that we’re all warmed up (chuckles) (crowd cheers) let’s go…”
Intro to “Shout”
“E-flat…is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive out there? (crowd cheers) is there anybody alive (crowd: “out there”) ‘cause I want you to…I want you to…I want you to…I want you to…I want you to…shake your ass now…come on and shake that ass now…that’s right…that’s right…shake it, baby, shake it, shake that thing, shake that thing…”
Middle of “Shout”
“Sister Soozie Tyrell on the fiddle, guitar and vocals (crowd cheers) Charlie Giordano on the organ and accordion (crowd cheers) the master, Mr. Nils Lofgren on the guitar (crowd cheers) Mr. Jake Clemons on the saxophone (crowd cheers) the mightiest of the mighty, the Mighty Max Weinberg on the drums (crowd cheers) Professor “88 keys just ain’t enough” Roy Bittan on the piano (crowd cheers) the man with all the talent, Mr. Garry W. Tallent on the bass (crowd cheers) and last but not least, the king…the king…king of the Underground, Little Steven on guitar and vocals (crowd cheers) can I get a witness?… can I get a witness? …can I get a witness?…can I get a witness?… can I get a witness? …can I get a witness?…can I get a witness?… can I get a witness? …can I get a witness?…can I get a witness?… can I get a witness? …can I get a witness?…can I get a witness?… can I get a witness?…can I get a witness?… can I get a witness?…Göteborg! (crowd cheers) Göteborg! (crowd cheers) Göteborg! (crowd cheers) Göteborg! (crowd cheers) you’ve just seen the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, earth-shocking, hard rocking, booty-shaking, earth-quaking, love-making, Viagra-taking, history-making, legendary E (crowd: “Street Band!”)…”
Middle of “Twist and Shout”
“I want to thank you, Gothenburg, I want to thank Sweden for three incredible nights here in this stadium (crowd cheers) that’s right…I want to thank you for that beautiful message on our way in tonight…that’s right…and I want to thank you for welcoming us home here in Gothenburg (crowd cheers) are you ready to test this stadium? (crowd cheers) are you ready to test this stadium? (crowd cheers) are you ready to test this stadium? (crowd cheers) are you ready to test this stadium? (crowd cheers) are you ready to test this stadium? (crowd cheers) are you ready to test this stadium? (crowd cheers) ah, here we go then…
(…) Let’s get out of here!…”
Towards the end of “Twist and Shout”
“Vi älskar er! (crowd cheers) vi älskar er! (crowd cheers) the E Street Band loves you (crowd cheers)…(music stops) goodnight, everybody! (crowd cheers)…”
After “Twist and Shout”
“Thank you, Gothenburg, thank you, Sweden (crowd cheers) we’ll be seeing you (crowd cheers) the E Street Band loves you (crowd cheers)…”
