“Yes, yes…woo! (crowd cheers) alright…this one’s for the old, old, old, old, even older than this old man right here…are we ready, Charles?…(Charlie starts playing the intro)…come on, Roy (Roy joins Charlie in playing)…this is a story…it’s a sad fucking story (chuckles) but it’s happy too…band! (rest of the band starts playing)…that’s right…it’s about wanting something…Max! (Max hits the drums)…bring it down, Charles…that’s right…this is a story, uh, sad but happy…uh, bright but dark…I used to live over a luncheonette and I had a routine…’course I’m a creature of habit…I don’t like change!…don’t change on me, baby (chuckles) I don’t like too much change…so I am a creature of habit and I used to wake up…in the morning and I would roll over…I would throw on my jeans and a t-shirt and I would go down to the luncheonette but morning for me was about one o’clock in the afternoon…way back when…just give me some chords, Charles…and so I used to go into that luncheonette and I used to order a ham sandwich with cheese and lettuce and a lot of mayonnaise…but no mustard…don’t give me no fucking Grey Poupon (chuckles) I don’t like any mustard, I don’t like it on my hot dog, I don’t like it on my sandwiches, no…so I would have ham, cheese, lettuce, a lot of mayonnaise…on white bread!…and I’d sit there…and every day around 1.20…there’d be this…lovely woman that would come walking down the street…and I would sit in my seat by the window…and I’d just watch her come up and I’d watch her pass…and I would do this regularly, five days a week (chuckles) no, her name was not Cynthia (chuckles) and she had about her that was so…transcendent that when she would come by, I would want to walk out on to the street and tell everybody to stop shopping, stop driving, stop doing whatever you’re doing…and just stop for a minute (band stops) (crowd cheers) out of respect…and then she’d pass on by…cross the street, go up that way and then…(band starts playing) life would go on, like it has to…five days a week…and I wanna tell you what we used to call her…alright…but remember…when I say stop…we’re gonna stop (band stops) out of respect…(band starts playing)…On our block all of the guys call her Flamingo…”
