Springsteen leaves New York City without Patti, after watching his daughter Jessica competing in an equestrian event, to attend the gala event of the "Springsteen: His Home Town" exhibit. He got his own curator-led walk down memory lane, strolling the exhibit’s two floors and a midsection. After the private tour Springsteen took the stage, underneath a tent in the backyard of the museum, with Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers, strapped on a guitar and thanked those in attendance for coming. "I can't stay long," he said. "I've got my family in the city, but I wanted to just come down and thank everybody for supporting the Historical Association… It's nice to be honored in my hometown." Together they played "Light Of Day", and then Bruce left.

Great night at the opening gala party of the "Springsteen: His Home Town" exhibit at the Monmouth County Historical Association in Freehold, N.J. It was already going to be a great night, but when you pull up and see members of Bruce's security detail standing out front, you knew it could be extra special.

The event was held outside, under a big tent behind the building where the exhibit is. Doors opened at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. those three magic words were starting to surface "Bruce is here."
He was inside looking at the exhibit. Others were told to wait while Bruce went through. Bobby Bandiera was playing with his band on the stage under the tent.
Around 7:50 p.m., you could see Bruce walking toward the tent and some thought he might play with Bobby but that didn't happen. While they were getting Joe Gruschecky's equipment set up, there was Kevin Buell setting up an amp and a microphone so we knew what that meant.

About 15 minutes later Joe came on stage with his band and Bruce was with them from the start. Bruce said he has family in New York so he just has to play early and leave. He thanked the organizers of the exhibit for the great job they did.

As you can (hopefully) see, please let me know if it shows up unavailable, we got a blistering "Light of Day." Bruce then left the stage after that, and Joe played for another 75 minutes or so.
It was very humid and hot under the tent but of course, so enjoyable to see Bruce play with Joe. Overall, a great night. Excellent food, open bar, lots of mingling and just the start to what is a must-see exhibit in Freehold.
Also spotted was Carl "Tinker" West, with his legendary truck, the one he and Bruce drove to California in, as well as Vini Lopez who played a song with Joe too.

A night we all will remember for a long time.

And to see Bruce play in Freehold, how do you get better than that? You don't.
