The fifteenth annual Stand Up For Heroes event returns to an in-person format, now at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. Alongside Springsteen, the bill features Nate Bargatze, Brandi Carlile, Jim Gaffigan, Grace Gaustad, Nikki Glaser, Sing Harlem, Donnell Rawlings, and Jon Stewart.

Thoughts on Bruce at Stand Up for Heroes
It seems annually Bob Woodruff’s Stand Up for Heroes features Bruce Springsteen. Bruce took the stage just after 10 PM, played four songs and told three “off-color” jokes. A few comments:
- Bruce is ready to go on tour. At the end of Dancing in the Dark, you could see it written on Bruce’s face, he was just getting warmed up, Bruce was ready to play more (at least another solid half hour), alas Bruce was “ushered” off the stage.
- Bruce looks amazing. The guy is 72, he’s in amazing shape, I’m 66 and I’m not in such amazing shape – the Boss is Tour Ready.
- I’ll Work for your Love: the first song Bruce did. Having heard the song done with the band a few times (and at least acoustically once if memory serves), this was a great and an interesting choice. After seen Springsteen on Broadway in 2017 and in July, seeing Bruce doing a song with his guitar and not the band is always special.
- Letter to You: I’ve been blessed to having attended more than 200 Bruce shows, the number really doesn’t matter, it’s not some sign that defines how big a Bruce fan is. However, when you’re hearing a song live for the first time; that’s when there’s magic in the night, those are the Bruce shows, I really love to be at. I love Letter to You, and I’m pretty sure when we hear the song on the upcoming Letter to You Tour, the song will sound like it does on the album. That’s GREAT and as it should, but a real and honest cherished nugget to hear it live with just Bruce
- Hungry Heart: I’ve heard Hungry Heart live many times, it’s a great concert song, one that in the early 1980’s served as a great “breaking the barriers” between Bruce and his audience. NEVER have I heard the song acoustically (at least that I can recall) and it was really special, a five start treat from start to finish.
- Dancing in the Dark: When Bruce talks about his mother and the challenges she’s facing late in her remarkable lived life, Bruce, at least during Springsteen on Broadway, shares the love Adele Springsteen has for music and dancing. Bless you Bruce, I imagined Adele Springsteen’s larger than life presence throughout the closing song.
- All told Bruce was onstage for close to 30 minutes.
Attending Stand Up for Heroes was and will forever be a cherished Bruce moment in time. I’ve been so lucky to having been to having attended some amazing Bruce shows, Stand Up for Heroes joins that list
