Note: V1 and V2 are rehearsal workouts at Telegraph Hill on November 15, 1979. V3-V8 were also recorded at Telegraph Hill around the same time, but without the E Street Band, as Springsteen worked on developing the song. It had a feel not unlike "The River," and in V8 he admits he can't "keep those payments up". There is no evidence that this song went any further, but by this time in his career, Bruce had become adept at collecting song ideas, and transplanting music and lyrics where needed.
