Note: V1-V6 are solo acoustic demos of Springsteen working on the development of "Chevrolet Deluxe", probably recorded at Telegraph Hill around September - October 1979. V7 and V8 are rehearsal workouts at Telegraph Hill on November 15, 1979, now with the E Street Band. Unfortunately the vocals are utterly buried in the music, but we do have the demos to give us an idea of what Bruce was singing about. It had a feel not unlike "The River," and in V6 he admits he can't "keep those payments up". Aspects of "Stolen Car" can be found in the opening lines of one take, and "My Hometown" in another. There is no evidence that this song went any further, but by this time in his career, Bruce had become adept at collecting song ideas, and transplanting music and lyrics where needed.
