LITTLE WHITE LIES - V2 2:47 ATMF / DROC1 / SYMKB / DBTR / SC
LITTLE WHITE LIES - V3 2:39 RIVER: OUTTAKES

Note: Also known by the titles "White Lies", "To You" and "Don't Do It To Me", but all takes in studio logs were under the name "Little White Lies". V1 listed on the 'Lost Masters IX' CD as "Untitled #3", possibly because the lyrics had not been written yet; recorded at Telegraph Hill in early 1979. V2 is an unreleased take by Bruce and Band, cutting loose at the Power Station on June 1, 1979, and circulating in high quality. On the short-list of great unreleased tracks for many years, circulated on 'Son You May Kiss the Bride' as "Don't Do It To Me" since the 1980s. The lyrics of "Mary Lou" are drawn upon heavily for this take, and Springsteen would use them again in July to record, "To Be True". V3 was released in 2015, on The River: Outtakes, included in The Ties That Bind box set. This is an unreleased take, recorded June 13, 1979, with updated lyrics, replacing the lines from "Mary Lou" with four new verses, two later used in "Loose Ends". The lead vocal is definitely vintage. One of Max Weinberg's personal favorites, and he expressed his wish that it be released, which was granted.
