Note: V1-V4 are acoustic demos recorded at Springsteen's home in early 1979. V2 is a single five minute take of Bruce working on the song, with mostly audible lyrics and the hook, "You better watch it young man, love will get you down". V1, V3 and V4 are partial, interrupted takes. This demo evolved into a V5, a song rehearsed with the band in March 1979, a recording of which exists in private collections. As is typical with the Telegraph Hill recordings Bruce's voice is buried in the music making it hard to identify lyrics. That hook from the demo is audible, but no longer sounds like "love will get you down". Based on what can be heard, "Love Will Be The Name" or "Love Will Be The Game" are possible titles, as well as "Love's A Losing Game", which Bruce clearly sings over the outro. A well-developed and practised song, it's feasible that the song was subsequently recorded in the studio, although no other songs with potentially matching titles exist in the studio logs.
A handwritten document from the River sessions does include the title "Love Won't Let You Down". It is possible that is actually this song, despite the lack of that phrase in the lyrics. However, it's just as likely that "Love Won't Let You Down" is a entirely different song that we have no audio evidence of. There is no relation between this song and "My Love Will Not Let You Down".
