Note: Written by Springsteen around April 1972, V1 is a tentative solo acoustic performance recorded at CBS Studios in New York City on May 3, 1972 as part of a CBS studio session. V2 was recorded at 914 Sound Studios, Blauvelt, NY on either June 27 or 29, 1972 with Springsteen now accompanied by either Garry Tallent or Richard Davis on bass. Davis recorded his overdub for "The Angel" on June 29, 1972. The 914 studios version is stunning, evocative, and highly deserving of an official release. "Two Hearts In True Waltz Time" was seriously considered for Greetings, appearing on an August 1972 shortlist. A very early potential song list for Born To Run indicates that the song was also considered for that album, however there is no evidence to suggest that it was ever recorded in the studio in 1974 or 1975. Bruce may have lifted the title from a 1930 German operetta titled Two Hearts In Waltz Time, or perhaps the 1934 British remake.
