After a couple dry-run dates in the studio in May, Bruce and the band begin sessions for the second album in earnest. At this time, "Santa Ana" was titled "Hey Santa Anna" and "Seaside Bar Song" was called "Johnny & The Hurricanes Song". We have entries for fourteen confirmed sessions from the sessions for The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle, all at 914 Sound Studios. However, many undocumented sessions certainly exist, as Bruce and the band regularly repaired there between midnight and dawn to avoid paying the studio. It is likely that many of the base tracks for the album were recorded around mid-June 1973 in this fashion. June 20 is sometimes listed as a recording date for some of these tracks, for example.
