Studio sessions continue for the second album, with David Sancious arriving in the studio for the first time. His most important contribution is to play a central role in the transformation of "New York Song" into "New York City Serenade"; he also records overdubs for most of the songs that had already been recorded during previous sessions, including the central organ riff for "Phantoms"/"Zero And Blind Terry" (Bruce hadn't decided which version of the song to go with, and recorded vocal takes for both versions on this date). The base tracks for the released versions of "New York City Serenade", "Santa Ana" (still called "Hey Santa Anna"), "Zero And Blind Terry", "Seaside Bar Song", and "Kitty's Back" were all recorded during this session. So were the final overdubs used for "Wild Billy's Circus Story"; according to Mike Appel, the mid-song press roll on the latter track was not recorded by Vini Lopez but by an uncredited sessions drummer.
