Just days after Springsteen's lawsuit with Mike Appel is settled, Bruce and the band enter the studio to begin work on the long-delayed fourth album. Focusing on songs that had already been rehearsed, they started fast, laying down at least ten (and, according to Dave Marsh, up to twenty) songs during the first session; ten tracks (those listed minus the unconfirmed "Come On (Let's Go Tonight)") were transferred to a cassette that became known as the 'Star Wars demo tape.' "Something In The Night" from this session was used on the final Darkness On The Edge Of Town album; the base tracks for the released versions of "Breakaway" and "Because The Night" likely also derive from this session.
