In early January, David Geffen had approached Springsten requesting that he write a song for Donna Summer; the base track for the album version of "Cover Me" was recorded at this session in response. Ultimately, Jon Landau talked Bruce into keeping the track for himself; "Protection" was donated instead. The base track for the released version of "Lion's Den" was also recorded on this date. "Savin' Up" was recorded at this session or on February 23, but probably not both. It is rumored, but not confirmed, that "I'm On Fire" was also attempted at this session.
