Inspired by their earlier collaborations on "Dark & Bloody Ground" and "Homestead", Bruce Springsteen and Joe Grushecky held a joint songwriting session at Springsteen's home studio in July 1995. It's not clear whether any actual recording was done as part of this session, but it produced four new songs—"1945", "Cheap Motel", "I'm Not Sleeping", and "Idiot's Delight"—which would be released by Grushecky and The Houserockers on their 1997 album Coming Home, in versions recorded without Springsteen's participation.
