During the May 2008 Dublin stand, Bruce had received a letter from actor Mickey Rourke requesting a song for his upcoming film The Wrestler. Bruce called Rourke in the middle of the night, telling him, "I'm in Europe and I'm touring, and I don't know if I can do this, but if I can, I'll try something." By the time Rourke and director Darren Aronofsky met with Bruce at one of the July Giants Stadium shows, he has "The Wrestler" to play for them; as such, Bruce almost certainly recorded the song around this period.
