Inspired by their recent live performances of both songs, Bruce and the Band entered the studio in Sydney on a day off from the tour to cut new versions of their arrangements of "High Hopes" and "Just Like Fire Would". These would serve as the base tracks for the album version. Tom Morello recorded his parts separately on the same date at Studios 301's Byron Bay location.
