Steven Van Zandt (also known as Little Steven and (Sugar) Miami Steve) (born November 22, 1950, Boston, MA) plays guitar and mandolin in The E Street Band, of which he was a member from July 20, 1975 through 1983 and again from 1999 to the present. He is also a renowned radio disc jockey and is well known as an actor in the television drama The Sopranos (1999-2007), in which he played the character Silvio Dante. In 1975, he co-founded and managed Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, along with frontman Southside Johnny Lyon, and thru 1978 and their first 3 albums, he produced, arranged, and wrote 60% of their material, all while performing his E Street Band commitments. He moved on to form a new persona and his own solo band called Little Steven & The Disciples Of Soul in the 1980s. In addition to The E Street Band, Van Zandt was a member of early Springsteen bands, including stints serving as the bass player in Steel Mill (from March 1970 until the band's breakup in January 1971) and as the guitarist for The Bruce Springsteen Band. In 2014, Van Zandt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The E Street Band.
