Suicide was an American musical duo, intermittently active between 1970 and 2016, composed of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev. The group's pioneering music made use of minimalist electronic instrumentation and primitive drum machines, and their early performances were confrontational and often ended in violence. They were among the first groups to use the phrase punk music in an advertisement for a concert in 1970.
Though never widely popular among the general public, Suicide have been recognized as among the most influential acts of their era.
Boruch Alan Bermowitz (June 23, 1938 - July 16, 2016), known professionally as Alan Vega, was an American vocalist and visual artist.
Bruce wrote the following on his website after the death of Alan Vega:
Over here on E Street, we are saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Vega, one of the great revolutionary voices in rock and roll. The bravery and passion he showed throughout his career was deeply influential to me. I was lucky enough to get to know Alan slightly and he was always a generous and sweet spirit. The blunt force power of his greatest music both with Suicide and on his solo records can still shock and inspire today. There was simply no one else remotely like him.
