The album was released in mid October 1987, and production was overseen by Jimmy Iovine for A&M Records. The Special Olympics received, in March 1988, a royalty check for $5 million. As a result of the spectacular success of the album, selling over four million copies and counting, it became the biggest benefit recording in the history of music.
