Darkness On The Edge Of Town - Studio Sessions - Alternative Sequence #4 - Album Cover Mock-up
In October 1977 Springsteen was four months into recording his fourth album, what would become Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Around this time Columbia Records' art department created concept album artwork, based on Bruce's latest album sequence, and utilizing photographs taken by Eric Meola. The album was titled Badlands, but was withdrawn because Bruce withheld approval and returned to the studio. Meanwhile, another artist, Bill Chinnock, released an album called "Badlands" in early 1978, so the name was never used.
"Independence Day" was dropped from this sequence, but later re-recorded and released on The River in 1980. "Candy's Boy" was soon after dropped and never played again, and "Don't Look Back" was cut from the album in May 1978.
