“If you’re ever going to New York anytime soon, take along your manager. Even if you’re going there to buy a pair of socks, take your manager. I did. Look at me. I went in for an audition with my manager to the Columbia offices, got in the elevator and went to floor X. We got off, walked through a few clouds and then we saw him. There was Clive Davis, the head of the company, dressed in a white robe and a wreath on his head. I fell to my knees and played the guitar”
