29.01.81 Ames, Iowa, intro to ´´Independence Day´´
´´I remember when I was growing up….I could never figure my old man out, you know, I could never….understand why he seemed so, so angry all the time….and why it seemed that the things we wanted to say to each other, we could never say to each other….I remember he used to sit in the kitchen every night waiting for me to come in….and the only time he could ever talk to me when I was real young was after he´d been sitting there a long time, having too much to drink….and I remember when I got older, I was counting the days before I could get out of that house and….when I finally, when I finally left, I felt like I was….I was never gonna come back, I was never gonna go back to that town, I was never gonna see those faces again, I was gonna forget that I had those friends and forget that I had parents….and for a long time I felt that way….and for ten years my folks moved and they lived, they lived 3,000 miles away from me….and when I finally went out and got back together with ´em….I realised that if I….if I could not, I couldn´t deal with them, I couldn´t deal with my, my Pop, I was never gonna be able to deal with myself….and you always gotta leave home, but it seems that you always gotta go back….´´
