“Don’t Bruce me!…there I was, stranded in my little town…in 1964 (crowd cheers) shortly after the disappearance of the dinosaurs…a very unfriendly place, little New Jersey town in 1964…very unfriendly…and I was a little bit of a freeeak (laughs from the crowd) so I had to find something, I needed something I could do… something I could do that would make me feel good…I had one thing (laughs from the crowd) but there's only so many things you can do for four hours (crowd cheers) so I was looking for something else…and I walked past a Western Auto store that sold guitars and car parts and I saw this old, funky acoustic guitar in the window… and I knew to get that guitar I was gonna have to work!…so I went to my aunts and uncles, my uncle Warren came out, showed me how to cut the hedges with the shears, mow the lawn…I painted the house across the street, tarred the roof in mid-summer heat, 95 degrees…for 50 cents an hour…and that was the last honest work I ever did (crowd cheers) I went downtown, I picked out that guitar, I took it home…and I started to practice…practice…practice …one hour..ten hours…a hundred hours…200 hours…5,000 hours… did that guy say 10,000 hours? (crowd cheers) takes more than that – 20,000 hours (chuckles) until suddenly I picked it up one day and it went…”
