The Cidade Do Rock (City of Rock), also known as Parque Dos Atletas, located in Barra da Tijuca, became internationally known as the stage of rock music mega festivals like Rock in Rio I and III in 1985 and 2001, respectively, holding crowds of up to 250,000 people in one night. The original site of the Cidade do Rock will be incorporated into the site of the Olympic Village for the 2016 Summer Olympics. A new Cidade do Rock was constructed to the southeast of the nearby Riocentro exhibition center.
